for a family go for GLI It's just me and Mrs Mud I prefer HB's (my car) and we don't need the room for 4 and luggage. Room for 2 and huge cargo makes a HB better for me.

While it shares lot of stuff with its hot headed brother GTI, it will never be a GTI...you cannot cheat physics of the larger car and longer wheelbase, so handling will be slightly worse and of course you will have a feeling of driving a larger car, which it is. I am not saying GLI is a bad car, it is not, but there is a price to pay for more legroom on the rear bench and larger trunk. Go test it and decide for yourself.

I think the reason being one prefers hatchback over sedan. Difference in size. Otherwise, they are the same everything. It's only 35lb heavier, even though the GLI has more space inside (and vented seats!).

I think it's a good car, but I definitely prefer the GTI looks/hatch.

2019+ GLI is nothing like the previous model years. It really is a GTI in sedan form.

Parabola pretty much posted my thoughts in the above post.

In theory both cars might share everything and weight difference might be negligible. As a GTI owner, I dont think i would be fully happy with a GLI. When i bought my second MK7 in 2019, i didnt even both to test drive a GLI which had better options and could be got with a lower price.

I believe the interior is slightly less premium than the GTI. But as others said, the GLI has more features and more rear legroom. I'd argue it's the sedan and more value version of the MK7.5 GTI. Front seats are different too.

I am yet to see GTI owners switching to GLIs even though the current one shares the underpinnings and that might be for a reason.

I have a friend who after having 3 GTI 's bought a GLI.

If I bought a GLI it would have to be an Autobahn. I’m normally not big on tech or leather, but the digital cockpit & vented seats are awesome!

My best friend has one and it’s like a GTI and an S3 had a baby.

As for rear seat vents I believe they’re under the seats

Through a complicated series of misunderstandings with my sister, when she moved out of the country, I bought her Mazda 3. I thought it was a manual hatch, it turned out to be an auto sedan. My friend's never missed a chance to call out 'sedan!' in a sad, waa-waa voice any time I showed up in that car. I would never pick a four door when five are available, but that's just me.

Same here. He said the reason was because clutch kicking for so long, and getting in and out of low cars wore his knee out so he got a GLI and hos no complaints. He had a MK6 and a MK7 in the time I knew him and was actually on these forums for a while before he switched
