Mid-range alternatives to Michelin PSS

Did anyone else notice the FK510 have an unusual amount of mold release compound new and are slick as goose shit for a 100 miles? All tires are like that to some degree, but it was really noticeable with them. It's burned off and they're fantastic now, but just wondering if I'm crazy or did anyone else notice it?

Didn't notice that on mine, but I had them at the track the first weekend I bought them. Didn't notice anything unusual there.

love this thread, I created one like it before and it had lots of nay-says who preach Ps4s or nothing, and not everyone has 900 for tires. when the mid range performance tires are going for 4-600. Mostly everyone here used the mk7 for daily driving, and if your going to track then get a track setup or they already have a track setup, but good info being spread here. that being said, cant wait to pickup my GmaxRs this week from tirerack, gonna be on the shelf a bit til I get new wheels but still exciting

Even though I bought the PS4S, I don't think you're wrong. There are definitely some gems to be had in mid-range tires these days, and that G-Max RS in particular had excellent wet performance in Tire Rack's tests.

I run nokian zline a/s and love them. Not sure how they compare to gmax as other tires

Yes. Definitely noticeable. Don't remember how long it lasted, but they were pretty slick for a while. Couldn't remember if that was normal on other tires or not, but I guess not

HOT off the press, Michelin is running the 70 dollar tirerack deal as well. It seems like pretty much all tire companies on tirerack are running this lol Stock size after mail in rebate = 673 seems like a killer deal still 243 above the gmaxRS but if you wanna spend a little extra, your getting the best tire

I was really happy with the Bridgestone S04 Pole Position on my BMW. They rode better than the Michelin AS3+ I have on my GTI and were quieter also.

It seems like pretty much all tire companies on tirerack are running this lol Stock size after mail in rebate = 673 seems like a killer deal still 243 above the gmaxRS but if you wanna spend a little extra, your getting the best tire

Looks to be more like $705 for a set of 4 225/40/18 stock size after rebate Vs the Gmax Rs $381 so it's actually a $326 difference.... Or you could say 3 and a half more GMax RS's...the gap is a bit more than 'a little extra'.

Either way though with these rebates it seems to be a very good time to be buying either tire.

In my cart its 673$ after picking up and rebate for PS4S (Stock), and 349 for General Gmax RS (rebate, pickup discounts). Your right they are more than 'a little more' the PS4S is about double. But I havn't ever seen PS4S sub 700 so i thought it was nice. Either way, definitely time to buy. And nothing wrong with going for the Strong Mid packers. Thats 324$ you save that can go towards another mod haha

after looking it seems there are maybe 10 total pickup locations. im luckily near the Delaware one, so i save 40$ extra.

I guess the numbers arn't fair for people who cant pickup, I thought there would be more centers to pickup I guess not.

I the the closest one to Florida is in Atlanta and that's far more than $40 worth of gas and time to pick them up.

yeah there was one in Georgia i think, ATL might be the second one idn, but yeah i wouldn't drive over 1hr to get them
but for me it was like 30there n back so not back for saving 40$ -gas
