How do I find out what my MIB is?

I've just seen what looks like an interesting post on YouTube "MIB2 firmware update tutorial (VW Audi Skoda Seat download links)".

My infotainment manual is entitled "Composition Media, Discover Media (Generation 2) Infotainment System"

The car is a MY 2016 GTI

Thanks, Ludwig

MIB2 is not specific enough to find proper firmware.
There's MIB2 High (MHI2 = Discover Pro) and MIB2 Standard (MST2 = Discover Media and Composition Media).
MST2 can be made by Delphi or Technisat/Preh.
TechniSat/Preh Firmwares are made separately for PQ cars and ZR (MQB) cars.

I have a Delphi unit was only able to get to mu0757 update. When I tried updating further I get a "variant conflict" error. My mainunit is 17258, is that just the highest I can go or is there something more to this?

I believe with MU0757 you can use only MU07xx firmwares.
Bummer, I updated and did the correction bit to fix the error after updating (the part you need a Xor calculator to fix). Randomly since then my backup camera glitches to random colors and wont stop till rebooting the headunit.

I wonder if its just a camera issue not the firmware? So the MU0757 is the highest I can go then right?

I'm replacing a damaged MIB2 head unit model 3Q0035874A in a Golf Mk7.
I've been offered an ex Skoda Octavia unit model 5Q0035874C, but I need to know:
  1. All but the first and last characters of these model numbers are the same. Do the first numbers (3 and 5) have any particular meaning, and does the higher final letter "C" simply mean it's a more recent or upgraded version?
  2. The Skoda unit runs firmware train MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0468T. Can I modify it for use in the Golf by flashing it with firmware train MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0478T, or will that brick it? (Noting that both these trains are in the same 04XX series)
  3. Assuming this is possible; would it be better to first flash the VW firmware and then install the VW "FEC_MANUAL_CID_OFF_CP_OFF" patch; or to first install the Skoda patch before flashing the VW firmware?
  4. If I do all this, am I right that both Skoda and VW use the same FeC's; and that my current VW maps SD card will still work with the new system?
If anyone can give me answers to these questions I'd be very grateful?

@Fredu
1. First 3 characters (3Q0 and 5Q0) are manufacturer/vehicle/variant codes. 3Q0 is for VW, 5Q0 is for Skoda. 5G0 is Golf MK7, 5G9 is Golf MK7 estate.
Last character is usually hardware revision.
2. You can cross-flash unit between brands and regions. Requires some work but is doable.
3. Flash first, patch second. If you patch first, you will overwrite it when cross-flashing and will have to patch again anyway.
4. Not all FECs are almost all the same, with the exception of maps. Each brand (VW, Seat, Skoda, Audi...) is using different FEC for maps. But with patched unit you will be installing FECs that you need. I think SD card is the same, but you can remove the CID-lock with MIB2 STD Toolbox and use any 3rd party SD card for maps.

I'm trying to figure out what is the latest US firmware for my 2018 Alltrack.

Here's what I have currently: MST2_US_VW_P9120D for software train version, software 0842.

I am looking at mibsolution.one for updates; I don't see a MU879 version for US---is MU870 the latest for US, or where would I find the latest?

As far as I know this is the order of Delphi firmwares for the 08xx series:
P9122D (MU0842) ➔ P0867D (MU0867) ➔ P0890D (MU0890) ➔ P0891D (MU0891) ➔ P0876D (MU0876) ➔ P0879D (MU0879)

And for clarification if you are 07xx you can't jump to the 08xx?

Thanks, but the reason I asked is that those are the EU firmwares and I have a US unit. In the US folder on mibsolution.one, here's what I see:

MST2_US_VW_P0867D_MU0867
MST2_US_VW_P0870D_MU0870
MST2_US_VW_P0635D_MU0757

The top one has the most recent posted date (Sept 30) but there is no info provided, so I was just looking for confirmation that 867 is indeed the latest for a US Delphi unit.

What's your MIB P/N and what version did you upgrade from?
