There is an active TSB on the trim so even if out of warranty they'll cover the replacement.

the piece on mine is chipped and peeling as well.

I cut myself this weekend on the interior of the car but not from this particular trim, lol. On the topside of the steering wheel column where the column meets the wheel, there was a piece of sharp tape left behind it looks like, more than likely from when the car was unwrapped at the dealer years ago? I was wiping some little dust particles off the column with my fingers and SLICE! About half an inch long and bled. Had to get the bandage out and inspected afterwards to see the little damn tapish thing protruding from the column.

I swear, when you walk into this car there should be the SAW voice over that says, "oh yes, there will be blood".

I cut myself multiple times on that. I called vw and today they replaced it under the recall. Now I'm cut free!
