I realized I did the fluid leveling procedure (where you pull out the drain plug, but leave the snorkel on) with the engine off instead of on. The car runs fine, but I'm a little paranoid. Should I buy another Liter of gear oil and redo the procedure or just top off a little? How much difference is there with the engine on or off?

If you put in 5L and approximately .4L drained out then you are fine. If you do not know, then do it properly. It is easy and well worth the peace of mind IMO. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/diy-dsg-fluid-and-filter-change.344602/ Drain the oil when car is level so all the DSG fluid drains out. If 4.6L (when cold) drained out then you did it right and just re-fill. If less, then add DSG fluid until you get 4.6L.

I goofed mine recently and decided after a few weeks to just buy a liter of fluid and re-set the level, simple/painless and it ended up being that I was close the first time but I sleep better now!
