Hi all,

Over here in the Rockville area.

Trying to balance out all the VA VWs :):)

I drive a silver SE, 4 door manual. No LP, but hope to have Golf R replica headlights from Ed installed this month.

I must say, I don't see many Mk7 GTIs out there. A white one with nice after market rims is in my neighborhood, but I haven't said hello yet. He was doing a kid run at the same elementary school as me. Maybe you are on here?

Happy GTIing

What's up and congrats on the ride! I just ordered the replica lights from Ed - debating whether to install them myself or have a professional to them

Hi,

I will be trying to install them myself next week end. And I am not mechanically inclined. But with the videos and text DIYs out there I figure it can't hurt. If I can't do it, then I can get someone else to do it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I havent had experience with headlights but i did with taillights when i had my mk6, i hear eds are plug and play. You don't have to remove bumper, you can remove the grille which only holds 4 bolts on top, and headlight holds from bolted on top on a bracket.

Hi,

The bumper needs to be, at least, loosened is my understanding from what I've read. And the design/arrangement of the headlights in the engine compartment is a big change from Mk6 to Mk7. So apparently replacing lights in Mk7 is not as straightforward as the Mk6 (though I am only repeating others comments). I have the lights and have assembled the parts...that was straightforward. I will be happy if he rest of it is also straightforward.

Hi all,

installed the lights. Very happy!

The lights produce much more light, DRLs very clear & no adjustment appears to be needed. And no red stripe since these are R replicas.

The install took 4 hours, but got it all done, with the help of a friend. Neither of us work on cars so if you have familiarity with such work then it should be faster.

Challenges, a few. Weirdest is that one of the lights only worked properly with one of the ballasts, other light worked with both ballasts.

If anyone has any questions please just let me know.
