Map updates

Wondered if anyone can help.
I have the discover navigation head unit in mine.
Do i have to update it myself ie sat nav....
If so how do i do it and how often?.
I originally thought that when it goes in for a service the dealer does this.
Is this right?.
Any help much appreciated.

little update ive found something on the vw website that says may 2016 update.
i had the car in march so will it still need updating.
it also says europe 1 or europe 2.
do i need to just download the section with my country listed on it?

Europe 1 is what you need. You can download an app from the vw website which does the whole process for you. You open the app, put in the sd card and it will check for update, download it and install it and create a back up of the old one. Very neat.

i updated mine a while back, car went into VW as the aircon hisses. They said theres a recall/updated and did whilst in so you could just do that and pop into nearest VW. Aircon still hisses though
