Lowline BCM Possible Mods - And what are these extra pins?

Hey everyone,

I just completed the rear fog light mod on my NAR 2015 Golf Sportwagen S.

I fully pulled out the BCM and started studying what other pins were on the module to see what other modifications I could do with this current BCM. I cross referenced the Golf wiring diagram.

I have a Lowline BCM, so there are plenty of blank pin spots for things like heated seats that would only be in a highline BCM.

Here's what I found interesting through. I found several pins on my lowline BCM that were not defined in the wiring diagram. 🤔I assume these are used for functions on other MQB platform vehicles? What are these for?

Here's my BCM:

And here's the chart from the wiring diagram showing each pin. I put a note to the left of the number of each pin.

Legend:
NO = My lowline BCM has a blank spot in this position
Dot = My lowline BCM HAS the pin. I already have this functionality most likely to my knowledge
Dot with arrow = My lowline BCM has the pin, and I know I don't have the feature (yet). E.g. B28 Washer Fluid tank sensor
Dot with Question Mark = I have a pin on the lowline BCM, but the wiring diagram does not define what this is. There are about 9 pins like this. E.g. C19

I bet @Cuzoe or @DV52 may know the answer to this. (Also unrelated to BCM, next retrofit will finally be my Soundaktor. Thanks again Cuzoe for the tutorial last year. My VAS5054 is on its way)

Drew: Hi.
Hmm........... alas, the answer to your question is NO -for me! But in my case, I suspect that my problem is that I'm not really familiar with NAR model Golfs - we don't get to see many of these strange vehicles on our streets down here in the very deep South!! Maybe my learned "Yankee" colleague (and your fellow countryman) is better placed to answer your question

Let's take your "Eg. C19" as a case in point - The same pin-out page as in your picture for the BCM pin in our Rest of World (RoW) cars is shown below:

So at least for our early MY15 Golf mk7s (which are Right-hand drive cars) - this pin is populated on the BCM (same as in your BCM housing picture) and it has a defined purpose.

Don
PS: this is the motherboard for the BCM on my test-bench, which is 5Q0-937-084 N

Don thanks for this. I bet the wiring diagram i was looking at was for a ROW BCM. Let me check

I saw this thread and thought it was very interesting, then got distracted, and holiday stuff.

But I'll have a look at some of the diagrams I have from Erwin for other MQB vehicles. Maybe something interesting could be found there.
