Hi guys,

Am new to this forum, although been reading threads on here for the last 2 months. I am planning to buy an MK7 GTI after the summer, probably in October but so many things disappoint me in VW ME and i have some doubts myself:

1- Why is GTI performance pack not offered yet, even though the rumors were it will be made available by mid 2015?
2- Will they offer the "mode" button DCC?
3- Ali & Sons offers the MK7 GTI top of the range for 149K. That includes the 8" screen and all the goodies apart from DCC & performance pack obviously. I heared they really suck as dealership and especially after sales, any Idea?
4- I know its a boring subjuct, but am torn between Pure White - Tungusten Silver - Limestone Grey(the closest option), any advise?
5- My current car is a 2010 Lexus IS, which is considered a luxury car and brand, many people are telling me its a step down to get a GTI, opinions?

Sorry for the long post

Hey. Welcome to the forum. Gonna take a stab at answering your questions as best as I can.

1. It's possible that they don't sell the performance pack because it bridges the gap between the gti and the R. So I assume from a business strategy perspective, it wouldn't help improve their Golf R sales. And if you look at the difference in prices between a gti and an R, it's nearly a 30k difference. It's just my theory though.. I could be wrong and the performance pack could be out here by the end of the year. :p
2. Yes, if you tell them to. That would be considered a special order and would take about 5 months to come. I ordered mine with DCC.
3. I think the 2016 models have bigger screens but not sure if it's an 8" screen. If you do customize it and request for the Discovery Nav Pro, I understand that comes with an 8" screen.
4. From your options, the pure white really stands out on the gti and it looks good. But again, choose a colour on what you would like to see.. not what other people would like to see.. just my opinion.
5. Being a die hard gti fan, I wouldn't even bother comparing both cars...

If you're confused about buying a gti, I have a simple suggestion. Google what are the negatives and positives of buying a gti. I can assure you the positives would be 10 times more than the negatives..

I appreciate your reply.

1- your theory makes sense. My road to work involves many roundabouts and would love a gti with a LSD..lets see.
2- Great news
3- As I said, ali and sons offer the 8" discover pro
4- I agree with you..my only problem with it is its way too common...most of the gti's I see in the street are white..make no mistake it's a great color..especially at night.
5- I have been doing a thorough research more than anyone could imagine..especially that it would be my first gti...its all the car I need and much more. To be honest with you..my heart says gti...my head says splash extra 20k and get a brand new audi s3 which is priced at 169k even though I hate the interior of that car.

Once again...thanks for your reply and advice

If you have a budget of 149 K....an R will serve you better...much better. Base R will set you back 149K too. Only difference between a base R and my "top spec GTI" is leather and sunroof + auto park. NAV around here is pretty useless and I only see it as a cosmetic addition. If I really need nav for that once in a year trip I have my trusty Garmin that cost me less than a 1000 AED as opposed to AED 10K from VW :)

However, if you want a GTI loaded from Ali n Sons, you can service it in Dubai at nabooda too. Not a problem as the service contract is country specific not dealer specific.

Colour wise, I would pick the Tungsten or the Limestone as I hate flat white (no metallic flake). My original order was a limestone as it looks beautiful. But it is all subjective and based on what you like. If I had to get white I would place an order for Oryx White.

As for luxury and comfort....you can't really compare a lexus to a GTI as its a hot hatch and is lot harder due to that. Also, GTI is front wheel drive which will take some getting used to after driving a RWD car.

I would suggest driving them and get a feel of the cars ur looking at.

The S3 is my favourite due to the value it offers at 169K it has a ton of options more than the R and rides a lot softer and more comfy, all while still having that power on tap. As a daily s3 would be a sweet car.

HAPPY HUNTING :D

Hey, I agree with Mukul if you are looking at a budget 149 k consider the R specially since you want a performance pack on the GTI. I went into Naboodah contemplating a gti,and took an R for a test drive just for the fun of it. I literally screamed out to the sales guy I am buying an R after the first turn. Test drive both cars to get a feel. I also checked the s3 but somehow from a drive perspective i felt the R was better tuned and IMO the R looks a lot more rugged.

You can also spec it however you like, ive ordered a base R with a few extras including DCC. Ordered it in april with a 20% down payment and got a call recently stating the car will be here in July. So roughly 4 months.
