The front fender is very thin from the factory, you can take your finger tips and push the inner flat piece metal up easily without a fender roller too BTW (I have a roller too and didn't even use it lol). I just did this to give myself additional clearance hopping to fit some slicks in there next month.
245/40-18's @ et45 will just barley clear everything in the front and you will have room to spare in the rear, even when lowered. Front inner fender has two screws on the outer portion that can be removed for a couple MM of additional clearance if needed.
I know a lot of people keep asking if certain wheels will clear the PP brakes.
When I got my Stoptechs for my BMW (6-piston, 355mm up front and 4-piston, 345mm rear) I was able to print out a template that would give me the exact dimensions of the brake caliper so I would know if my wheels would clear or not.
With most aftermarket performance wheels, the spoke curvature is usually sufficient to clear most BBKs. The barrel dimension (interior diameter of the wheel) seems to be the limiting factor. This definitely varies by wheel. There are some companies where a 17" wheel would clear my Stoptech brakes and others that would take a 19" wheel to clear. It depends on the wheel manufacturer and how they design the barrel.
If someone can get ahold of a brake template, it'd save everyone a lot of headaches.
I ordered the Volk Racing RE30 Clubsport II in 17x8 et45.
The RE30 should be 15lbs according to Mackin Industries, the official importer of Volk wheels.
I only have a 1.8T, so the standard wheel is the 15". I'll add a set of VWR springs and I should be good to go.
Tire size will more than likely be 235/45, although I'm not sure if I'll get the Michelin PSS or Conti DW. I have extensive experience with both and I know the PSS are superior, but the DW are on sale and I think that would definitely be enough for this car.
Unfortunately, it's going to be quite some time till I get them. They (Evasive Motorsports) didn't have them in stock so they were ordered from Japan. That means I won't see them until early April or so. It's winter here now in PA, so I'm not too worried about it. I will definitely update as soon as I get them on.
I'm now leaning towards 245/40 instead of 235/45. I was told they'll fit without a problem and I always like to get the most tire I can under me. The 245 is wider by half an inch, but it's also a half inch shorter diameter.
I should have the springs installed prior to getting the wheels though.
