2024 bump to ask those of you with the Motegi MR146 17x8.5 ET42. I read that they "barely" clear the PP / R brakes, but what kind of gap are we talking about here? 2mm? 8mm?

Nobody will care because these wheels are discontinued now, but anyway the narrowest gap is a bit over 4mm, near the center of the caliper, near the outer edge. Going further inboard the clearance is better because the diameter of the barrel also gets larger.

Out of curiosity are those BRAND NEW brake pads? Because that WILL make a difference if they're not, and you go to replace them you will find the caliper closer to the wheel. They look pretty clean in the photo but have to know for sure... hah.

I use Konig Rennforms as summer wheels and they are 18x8 +45 and come in at 18.4 lbs according to Konig. A little lighter and cheaper than the ProTracks, more expensive than the Sparco's.

They're a pain to clean but I think they look great.
You're right about the cleaning. And there's no decent brush so end up using a mit and digging fingers into all the nooks and crannies

Did the 'right thing' over 3 years ago by replacing my Golf's original handsome but heavy and hard to clean Linas 16x6.5 alloys with 17% lighter 16x7 Bini Revolites. Today have sacrificed some great efficiency for hopefully better form by fitting these M-B 'forged' 16x7 items, but on sporty-biased 'summer' 215/55 Kumhos this time. On this tyre they weigh-in at 16.6kg each, almost 1.5kg heavier than the Revolites :( - but at least still over 1.6kg lighter than the narrower Linas were.
