I tried searching but only found 1 thread before, with only a few responses and they kind of contradicted each other. I'm not sure if that's indicative of how subjective it is (probably), or there just weren't enough responses.

I'll be running ED springs on them, but I'm curious to hear anybody's opinion regardless of what springs they have on them, just to get a better sense of things. I know what I should be doing is just testing them myself at every setting, but in lieu of that (some time constraints at the moment with doing a lot of work on the house) I'd like to have a good starting point.

Start them in the middle setting for dampening. I have them on my mk6 currently. I'm using Eibach pro springs with them. The spring rates and dampening are the same for mk7's. They are very easy to adjust. I've played with them a bit over the years and right in the middle is the best compromise I've found.

Koni recommends starting at 1/4 turn from full soft, and then obviously you can dial it stiffer from there

I guess it all depends on your "application"....whether you want comfort or (stiff for) better handling

I find their ride pretty unbearable on the street on anything but close to full soft. I only crank them to stiff when autocrossing. And this is on stock spring.

I only have the rears, 1/2 turn from full soft. Noticeably firmer than stock Golf, but bearable. Recently installed. Currently running this setting for autocross, may go another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

If you are only using as a daily driver, and you are going to buy them and keep them on soft...does it even make sense to buy adjustables? Would FSD's or strt's be a smarter buy?

The Sports pair up with any lowering spring though and are amazing...even on full soft, but can be dialed in from there to your liking (versus Bilsteins not being adjustable)

The FSD's are NOT meant for lowering springs...just the stock springs or minor dropping springs like DG's or something.

STr.T's....I haven't seen them available for the MK7 :confused:

How do you adjust these?

The fronts are adjusted via a small (included) knob...under the cowl

The rears, you have to compress all the way in and then turn the shock rod to adjust (before installing)
So if you install them and want to adjust them....you have to take the shock off the car, remove the mount & bump stop & boot, and then adjust them.
That's the only downside (the rear's adjustability)

I think so. Warranty is good if bought new and some say you can firm them as they wear, to bring them back closer to new at near full soft

for what it's worth I have a GSW with DG springs and Koni FSDs. This after I spent money on KW V1's. My experience is the DG springs and FSDs make for an excellent compromise between ride and handling especially for a daily driver.

Koni and bumpstops

I'm planning to install ED springs with Koni Yellows on my GTI in a few days. Do Konis struts have internal bumpstops like I've read the Bilstein B8 do? If not, I reuse and trim stock bump stops, correct? I read that ED trimmed in their install vid but that was with stock dampers.

Also, do I need to use the stock coil spring insulator/retainer that the spring sits on?

The Konis don't have internal bump stops....reuse your OEM ones and trim them (if you wish), although I believe the OEM ones are plenty short already

Yes, reuse the OEM rubber isolator
