After my MK6 was totaled back in February, I bought a MK4 1.8T to tide me over until the MK7 R came out. After it being delayed from the supposed August release to Q1 2015, to summer 2015 (for the manual version), I decided that with the growing list of issues with my MK4 that I needed to buy a new car sooner rather than later.

I decided to check out the GTI the other night, with the sole intention of only test driving it. After the drive, we talked some numbers so I would have an idea what to expect. I was able to get a decent deal, as well as some money on my MK4 trade in (which I honestly didn't expect much, if any, at all). The sales rep was able to locate a GTI with the specs I wanted.

With that said, Saturday morning at 9:00, I will be picking up my MK7 GTI SE in Night Blue Metallic with 4 doors, 6MT, and lighting package. While the AWD of the R would have been nice, I had no issues with the FWD in my previous GTI last winter, even with going up north a few dozen times for my snowboarding endeavors.

I'm stoked!

Congratulations! It truly is an awesome car. I was in sort of a similar situation as you. I wasn't waiting on the R, but I was waiting on the 3-door version.

I had the feeling that I wouldn't receive the three door until October or November and I needed a car sooner than that. I settled on a Carbon Steel 5-door GTI and I love it.

Again, congratulations!

congrats! I was in the same boat, I wanted a three door with the PP but my Mk4 was needing to much $$ to keep it running. Traded it in on a Black 5 door and I love it!

Ditto. I traded in my Mk6 R for a MK7 Autobahn. My R was a base and didn't have all the goodies the GTI has . I went stage 1 and intake today. I'm almost where my R is power wise.. not bad for a 1200 tune and intake by APR. Congrats! . i picked up my GTI 3 days ago lol

New GTI is smooth like butter all around (as I'm sure you're all aware of since you're already in one) - driving/suspension, shifting, general feel. I love it.

EDIT:
First picture at the delivery center. It was pretty cool with old VW Vans and Beetles. They also had some beer on tap for the customer while getting the overview of all the features.

Congrats! I'm a first time GTI owner myself. First time VW actually, and I can seriously say this the first car I was really looking forward too owning. I've already had a small issue with it, but I still love it. I've never been into a car so much that I joined a forum.
