Hello - I just picked up my 2018 Golf R last night. I am coming from formerly owning a 420whp Legacy GT, FBO Evo IX, and now a 2012 Mini Cooper.

First impressions- most premium vehicle I have ever owned. Everything is extremely well built and solid. Power is OK- I dont plan on going crazy with this one as I want a reliable fun DD.

My only complaint is the shifter/clutch feel. I have been driving manuals for 16 years. It feels vague and sloppy.

I will update this periodically with any updates on my vehicle:

Just installed my AFE Intake.

That’s it for power mods!

I have a Majesty Intercooler sitting around but won’t install it until I have to get my 20K service done. Haldex, Plugs, Intercooler.

Installing my dieselgeek shifter when it warms up a bit.
Debating between a Raceseng or Sportshifter Knob.

IMO clutch stop, delay valve delete, and clutch in that order are the best in terms of increasing clutch feel. If you’re looking for a shift knob opinion I have a Raceseng Topology that I’ve had for the past 60k miles and it is one of my all time favorite modifications I’ve done to the car. It has a super premium feel to it, matches the interior perfectly, and every passenger I’ve had in the car assumes it’s stock. Keep in mind the Raceseng sits much lower and because of that you might have an issue coupling it with the short shifter. At one point I wanted the DG shifter too, but after the shortened throw with the aftermarket knob alone I changed my mind.

Good choice, I’ve got 2 knobs from Roy and the quality is unreal... unfortunately I don’t run either of them anymore since I updated the shifter assembly now, but I’m still using the trim ring he made me.

Why don’t you run them with the upgraded shifter assembly?

Yeah, technically I could still bolt
It up but it’s design on the bottom of is designed to house the boot so it’s just don’t work looks wise.

Heres the shifter with the various knobs I’ve tried out, lol.

I’m getting near 40 😩 in my early 20s I had my trans am , and 70 z28 camaro... if my early 20s self could see me now hot rodding a 2.0 car 😂😂
