Is38 stock DP pass emissions?

If I install a is38 turbo on my car with a stock DP and stock tune could I still pass emissions? Has anyone done this?

If it's not tuned you will get a CEL. But you can easily find an IS38 tune for stock downpipe.

You won't get a CEL putting an IS38 in place of an IS20.

Nope. You could get one pushing it hard but it's just a piece of hardware and will regulate boost per the ECU and if driven normally will not give codes.

APR has an OE DP IS38 file for a GTI. Running it myself. It's a solid "easy button" option.

You won't ever pass in CA with any tune is my understanding regardless of readiness, downpipe, etc. so you would need to flash to stock.

Tunes must have CARB EO in order to pass. AFAIAW, many of the current OTS tunes (Cobb, APR, etc) have EO.

Aftermarket DP is different and won't pass visual unless you can prove it's a replacement for a failed OE DP, which is a pain in itself to get paperwork for.

And even then you are out of luck b/c the factory DP had 2 cats, they have to be OEM-equivalent, not a race cat.

APR stage 1 for GTI and R will pass smog in CA

As others stated, no CEL but you will not be getting the benefit of the turbo without the tune. The ECU will still feed it stock turbo parameters. MPG might also suffer, but that is just a guess.
