The log you linked to is from my initial Unitronic IS20 logging from last year. There was a problem with knock with that which was remedied shortly after with a tune update from Unitronic.

I need some education on what I am looking for here to identify knock. I am of the understanding that I look at ign2 thru ign5 to find knock, and ign1 is overall timing.

My ign1 increases as rpm increases, similar to the log from crxgator. On the two linked logs, my ign2 thru ign5 sit at zero.

Zumble, I do agree that the ign2 thru ign5 look bad on the log you linked. Thank you for the education and info.

You know what's throwing us off?? Your link is wrong in your posted logs! The text says IS38, but clicking the link brings us to the IS20 log. =P

So, 805wagons car cyl4 is like "this is fine" while the other 3 cys are poppin? Cyl1 KR will always bring overall timing down, that's how it's always worked with the Simos18 ECU. If IGN2 was KR for Cyl1 then any time IGN2 goes up or down then IGN1 would do so in corresponding fashion, but clearly it doesn't.

Please find me a JB4 log anywhere that shows anything in IGN5.

The car definitely uses Cylinder 1 (which is apparently IGN2) to apply corrections.

BTW, the JB was a 6cyl BMW unit prior to being used on 4cyl VAG cars. IGN2-6 are cyls 2-6. That has not changed.

I don't know dude. They use the same hardware but different firmware. I'm just going by what the JB4 "howto" post says. Check the link, someone is wrong.

From the post:
Timing adaption (different colours but timing adaption event circled in orange) IGN 2, 3, 4, 5 represent cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4

At 2426 RPM, there is IGN3 correction but IGN1 increases, as soon as IGN2 sees knock, the IGN1 decreases. I think that's proof that IGN2 is cylinder 1.

Please explain 3.5 degree correction with nothing in IGN2.

https://datazap.me/u/diggs24/diggs24?log=0&data=1-11-25

Can't. I think we need @George Smooth to sort this out.

Even in 2016, George states that 2-5 are used.

Logging:
The JB4 now has full logging ability and all the parameters on the logging page are logged. The only three parameters to be added in the next firmware update is the oil temp, water temp and transmission temp.
Ign 1 represent overall timing with Ign 2-5 timing adaption and the rest are self explanatory.

You can call me Chumbawamba because I get knocked down, but I get up again! Managed to score a steal on two IS38s yesterday! Finishing up the swap on my launch edition then finally installing an IS38 on my GSW4Mo! Much excite!

What are you doing for engine management on the 4Mo?

I need to motivate myself to drain the coolant system so I can pull my turbo. :cautious:

I'm told you can pull the top hose and then pressurize the bottle to force the coolant out the top. The turbo coolant return was the biggest bitch when I did the swap the first time because dropping the lower rad hose leaves a LOT of coolant still in the system.

I see the giant bucket. I take it you don't have any tricks.

So my trick is put a drain pan under the turbo, and whatever that doesnt catch I soak up with oil dry and vacuum it out. Then add about 1/2 qt of fluid and some water. No drain needed lol.

Doesn't work with a 4mo diff down there.
"Under the turbo" means all the coolant that comes out of there runs onto the top of the bevel box and onto the floor around the drain pan.

Well I didn't say it doesn't get some other things wet too 🤣

On my way.
Turbo went off to Canada today for the down conversion. PR rail went in. Next up is fuel line and pump. Then whenever Dan gets me the turbo back..... I'll trailer it to the closest UM dealer.
