Yea Montana is definitely on the brain. My GTI is about to be back on the road again and with my current reg expiring in November, I need to make a move.

I am very aware. One of the ex-members of our local car club is from Montana, and even though I grew up in Idaho, it wasn't good enough for him and we never got along.
Usually 1-2 years into production the VW has enough experience from parts revisions to make the cars overall slightly more reliable, then 3.5-4 years in they cost cut right before they retool the factories for the next model version and you get the friday afternoon into a long weekend *specials off the line. So yes, from a parts/experience mid to late MY16s and MY18s for mk7s are probably the best from an overall reliability, less overall headaches standpoint.
I noticed I can still buy a new 2024, which I believe was not possible before this late in the year. And has anyone read when the 2025's will be starting to build? I was thinking about what I would buy if some miscreant stole or totaled mine. The only thing I can think of is to buy a used Ford pickup until the 2025's are available with the options I want.
My understanding was they make R’s in February and that’s it. That’s exactly the way it was in 2019 when I ordered mine. But I’ve also noticed that here in the Charlotte area there are still some for sale a sticker price.
