Is VW Making a Lot of 2024 R's?

I noticed I can still buy a new 2024, which I believe was not possible before this late in the year. And has anyone read when the 2025's will be starting to build? I was thinking about what I would buy if some miscreant stole or totaled mine. The only thing I can think of is to buy a used Ford pickup until the 2025's are available with the options I want.

Not sure about VW but I do know some manufactures will produce current model years into the 4th quarter.
My Bronco, for example, was produced early November 2022 as a MY22 And I picked it up early December.. I actually think the following production week it shifted to MY23.
I was browsing trucks the other day and surprisingly there were still a few new 2023 F-150 Raptors on lots around me.
But I do seem to recall VW having the next model year out early. I remember when the MK7 first came out, I almost bought one of the first ones to hit my local dealer.
That was June/July of 2014, as I had just moved back to FL from NYC and was looking for cars.

VW has started producing MK8.5 Golfs a few months ago. What you see now are cars that were produced and slowly being shipped across the Atlantic. I know a lot of people aren't interested in paying the asking price for a MK8 either. In Canada, it's $53k for a MK8R DSG and only recently did dealerships and VW Canada start discounting them because it's been sitting on their lots for months.

I was at the dealer on Wednesday to have my suction jet pump recall done and they had seven 2024 R on the lot. All were priced within about $1,000 of each other, but still asinine in my opinion haha. Here's some of them.

I wouldn't pay a markup on these cars... or any car for that matter.

I wouldn't say the price of the Golf R is asinine. It really depends on the position you are in, how much leverage you have, whether you pay a mark up or dealer adds, etc. The GTI Autobahn ends up being 45k after destination and factory adds (that's before the dealer gets ahold of the car). That's spitting distance from a Golf R. Gone are the days of paying 24k for a brand new GTI S with Clark Plaids. Cars have just become more expensive.

It seems that most dealerships are done with waiting lists and Rs are finally showing up to lots. In my area, they are selling for around 48-49k. That's only up from about 43k MSRP for the MK7.5 R from 5 years ago. Break that down further, and the actual factory MSRP for the MK8 is around 45k before destination and factory adds (floor mats, auto dimming rear view mirror, road side kit, etc.) stuff you can't delete.

I'm honestly surprised that this Jim Ellis place is willing to just show ADM on the website. Most places only have it on the Monroney under the dealer adds as showing it online will only deter prospective buyers.

Yeah, to be fair, I haven't car shopped since I bought my 2015 GTI used in 2016 for $19,995 haha.

Yeah, I bought my '17 Sport new in mid-December 2017 for $24k. Great value at the time, absolutely - but I'm having a hard time seeing the value in the 8R or high-trim GTIs at the prices they're asking now, as much as I want one.

Using the BLS inflation calculator, $24000 in Dec '17 is about $30,600 now. A GTI Autobahn now at 43k, we're talking a nearly 50% bump after accounting for inflation. That's insane.

Sort of. The Autobahn has always been a stone's throw from the R. When I bought my MK7.5 in 2019, the Autobahn I went there to look at was around 40k. The R was around 43. I drove home that day in the R. There has always been a massive difference between the S & AB trims. You can't really compare the two.

Didn't USA have absurdly cheap MK7 and MK7.5 GTI S and SE? I remember being envious of what Americans were paying.

I remember my MK7.5 GTI was $44k tax included after dealer discount. Right now, the same MK8 GTI is $51k tax included before dealer discount, which unfortunately, is actually cheaper than the price increase caused by inflation.

Yes. Like I said earlier, you could get a new MK7/7.5 GTI S in the low to mid 20s. Was touted to be the best car that ever rolled out of Puebla.

New Golf Rs can be had for about 48k right now. That is if you know what you are doing and aren't paying any ADM.

I paid $42k for my '18 R, in April '18. Which was more expensive, by $2k, than the 993 I bought in '16. :p The R was the only new car I ever bought. With prices the way they are, will probably stick with used.

Yup! I have no idea what my four door GTI S DSG sold for new, but it was under $20k when I bought it after only being a year old and having 7,200 miles on it. It's 9 years old now, has been paid off for 6.5 years, and has just shy of 80k miles on it. Might be the best value for a vehicle I've purchased to date.

Value is definitely relative, but yes, the MK7s were hard to beat. My MK7R was the best car I ever owned. Should never have sold the damn thing.
