Is this the waterpump leaking?

Hi All,
2013 VW GOLF GT 1.4 ACT BMT TECH TSI with 120k miles. I have had to top up the coolant as it was down to the MIN mark. No running issues. I can see what looks like oil residue under the water pump, but suspect it must be coolant (and oil/dirt?). Please see the pics. I guess this means the water pump needs replacing as a minimum? Should the timing belt be done whilst they are in there, as its accessible?

Thanks

Coolant looks gross when it leaks and burns on something hot. Can't comment if that's what's happening here, you'd see smoke/vapor and smell syrupy coolant if that was the case. See: coolant near turbo

I am tempted to clean it up and then watch what happens. But think its best to take to a VW shop to see if they have seen something like this before. I'm hoping its coolant, but agree yes it does look like oil.

Fwiw this is what my pump looked like when I pulled it out. I think there's more than one mode of failure, in my case I wasn't losing coolant, the pump just stopped.

Wow yours shows obvious signs of leaking, with the dry stains. An independent VW garage has quoted me £720 including parts and labour. This is in the UK. The water pump and belt are about £300 from VW.

Just to update you all. I replaced the water pump and belt. I'm glad I did as the belt side was looking very tired and grubby. The pump belt also looked very tired.
Will monitor the coolant level going forward.
