Just wondering if and when there's a stage 2 tune for our diesels? Would one ever exist? See loads for stage 1 just thinking we could get more out of these engines surely?

A stage 2 tune would effectively be a custom map to go with hardware upgrades, such as exhaust intake, intercooler etc.
Our GTD's will not benefit from an upgraded intake, and the only way to get decent gains from an exhaust would be to get rid of the DPF.
With up coming reg's regarding DPF's, I doubt anyone will be removing one on a road car.
Decent tuners like CC Tuning can get 220bhp and 500Nm out of them. I would have thought you'd be close to the clutch capacity at this.
I'm sure in a few years there will be some wildly tuned ones pushing 300+ horsepower with enormous torque. But not as yet.
I must admit I would like more power, and am contemplating a Stage 1 tuned GTI pp. But my sensible head always wins!

To go stage 2 you'd need to consider a hybrid turbo with upgraded injectors and fuel pump and if someone works out an upgraded intercooler solution that's outside of the manifold...this would give you another possible +50bhp and push you towards 300bhp mark. As you say the DPF is the biggest restrictor - these could be removed on MK6 and there are some garages offering to drill them out and re-code on the MK7. Not sure how that will fare at MOT time or in terms of black soot...I remember Darkside Developments sold hybrid turbo kits for the CR170 with 2566VK/2260VK turbos providing power over 300bhp...but these may be DPF less too!

My GTD will be going to a friend, who no doubt will carry on with my GTD thread. We spoke about cost vs reliabitly & I think he will leave mine at stage 1.
I will be looking at a Golf R next. That is my next choice & yes it will see a map

I enquired about this at a local specialist and was told REVO are developing a Stage 2 tune for the Mk7 GTD, apparently it will require an upgraded downpipe and exhaust (which I already have), plus remap. Not sure when it's gonna happen though...

I saw this recently...Supersprint offering GTD exhaust with or without external sound speaker AND I ALSO NOTED A DPF DELETE OPTION SHOWING FOR THE MK7 GTD........although I believe this is a UK MOT failure and illegal for MK7's....

Interesting Waggers, so if you want it to pass an MOT you'd have to get the more expensive one with bungs? And how much do you reckon to fit one of those?

So, the one with bungs is the replacement down-pipe for the DPF delete. The MOT issue is the DPF removal....it needs to be there by law from Feb 2014...

You'll probably need 2-3 hours to fit...
