It’s the bolt that goes through the hood latch. AMS thickness allowed it to puncture the ac condenser. They put a shorter bolt in their kits after that.
I can't speak for everyone else, and I actually haven't dropped that kind of money on an intercooler yet. I have gotten to the point where I would rather give the extra money for fit and finish from a company that actually does their own engineering.Don't know why anyone would spend almost 1000 bux on a intercooler..but the 240 bux I spent on the majesty intercooler works amazing at WOT it drops to a cpl degrees above ambient sometimes it's even with ambient temp. Works just as good as the rest for a quarter of the price.
I have the AMS IC on a GTI and there wasn't a screw that can push into the AC condenser.

Not sure the thread pattern. I think it’s m6x1.0 but have to double check.
out of curiosity, what makes bar and plate your preference?
I think I'm going with APR instead of AMS actually just because APR is bar and plate (which is my personal preference) and it looks like R&D at APR was done to optimize the internal fin density, etc so while I think APR is fairly slimey company with poor customer service I'm going with their intercooler.
