Don't know why anyone would spend almost 1000 bux on a intercooler..but the 240 bux I spent on the majesty intercooler works amazing at WOT it drops to a cpl degrees above ambient sometimes it's even with ambient temp. Works just as good as the rest for a quarter of the price.

I can't speak for everyone else, and I actually haven't dropped that kind of money on an intercooler yet. I have gotten to the point where I would rather give the extra money for fit and finish from a company that actually does their own engineering.

Most times the price difference isn't in the performance; the company often has to pay for the research and development that they spent to create that product for us. I like to spend my money with those companies, or craftsmen that make you something that no one else will find in a catalog. I'm a sucker for pie cuts on pipes, but big companies tend to not like those. 😂

I have the AMS IC on a GTI and there wasn't a screw that can push into the AC condenser.

there used to be. They have since started sending a replacement screw after 2 damaged radiators. It's the 10mm black bolt that they include.

It’s the bolt that goes through the hood latch. AMS thickness allowed it to puncture the ac condenser. They put a shorter bolt in their kits after that.

beat me to it

I couldn't even find it, the only one on ams site is golf R FMIC

Ah the applications:

  • VW MK7 Golf R
  • VW MK7 Golf GTI
  • VW Alltrack
  • VW Passat
  • Audi A3 – S3
  • Audi TT – TTS
I guess people are choosing this because it is pretty good and up to 800hp (which noone has) expensive at 900 tho

Edit 2, says fmic but its stock location

Not sure the thread pattern. I think it’s m6x1.0 but have to double check.

Got an email back from AMS re: hardware for the intercooler.

Washer: 18-8 Stainless Steel Oversized Washer Black-Oxide, M6 Screw Size, 6.4 mm ID, 18 mm OD
Bolt: High-Strength Flanged Hex Head Screw Class 10.9 Steel, M6 x 1 mm Thread, 16 mm Long

I think I'm going with APR instead of AMS actually just because APR is bar and plate (which is my personal preference) and it looks like R&D at APR was done to optimize the internal fin density, etc so while I think APR is fairly slimey company with poor customer service I'm going with their intercooler.

Considering the size of these I/Cs, they’re all rated for more power than us 99% will ever come close to.

APR doesn‘t manufacture or have made custom cores for them for their ‘R&D’. They‘re simply regurgitating they’re sourced core‘s advertising. The ETS IC from my old EVO used this same “optimized staggered fin” design back in 2005.

If we assume the generalities of B&P vs T&F cores, yet both are rated to roughly the same power levels : would you rather have an IC that cools 5* cooler vs one that flows better AND is lighter?

i don’t have the APR but do have the AMS. What i can tell you is that there is no heat soak and resulting temp increase throughout the 1/2 mile run. What I can tell you that in day to day driving, when you get into boost, it cools well enough to be around 2-3* above ambient in temps less than 60* and around 8* higher when temps are warmer.
