Just waiting on quotes from engine builders now. Slowly working on pulling parts off the front. Trying to figure out what engine codes are basically drop-in, R/S3 blocks are pricey given there don't seem to be meaningful differences once the internals are mostly replaced.

And it looks like it was actually cyl3 piston that shattered, the other plugs look basically new, besides the oil. Guessing the debris from that is what mangled the bottom of #4. Waiting for a friend to bring a boroscope out.

Biggest mystery now is the turbo, hoping it's at least rebuildable. If not, I'll probably go back to my original IS38 and figure something else out for next year.

Taking suggestions for other stuff to do while the motor is out. I have a fluidampr already, planning on getting an iABED oil pan. Got some stage 2 BFI inserts.

Make sure you go with someone that has rebuilt many EA888’s, but I’m sure you know that already. Eurocode did a great job for me, my friends A2b engine worked well too though not crazy about them.

I did the fluidampr, mounts, charge pipe, and iAbed oil cooler. They ended up removing the oil cooler, something about the cooler size being too large. If you wanted to do anything around additional cooling this would be a good time.

They also said I didn’t need ARP head studs, I guess every builder will have their own preference.

Probably not necessary to go all out on the head unless you want. Cylinder head refresh with updated springs would be plenty IMO.

Yeah, I'm definitely not going with A2B, lol. I can get a 2yr/24k warranty through my usual vw/audi shop, just waiting on numbers. I'm just going for a basic refresh, if I did anything with the head it'd be springs, maybe aftermarket valve stem seals. Hoping to keep machining to a minimum.

I actually just had the bar-tek and CSF coolers added, it lasted through a full day at Gingerman without problems. I suppose the labor on the iabed exchanger delete would be low with the motor out but eh. I already ordered a new bar-tek cooler and mahle filter. Don't think I need/want to delete the HX this far north.

Bit the bullet and bought a used DLRA block off facebook marketplace. Definitely the most nerve-wracking purchase I've made.

Allegedly came out of a 19 R with 11k miles with excellent compression. Got a lift and a couple mechanically-inclined friends to help out. Hoping I'm back on the road before the end of summer at this rate.

How much?

If it's the post I was thinking about, guy had 3x low mile engines up for $4,500/ea, plus any applicable shipping.

yeah, that guy. actually messaged him the day I blew it up, he's had at least 4 2019 motors in the past month. I'm not asking questions

How much was shipping? I see those pop up from time to time and always think "Hmm.. having a spare on hand might not hurt..."

$375 to residential. FL to MI. Big draw is he's including the injectors, so I don't have to swap mine (mk7.5 injector harness connectors are different too compared to a pre-facelift car).

Who keeps a spare motor for a stage 1 car? Get a hold of yourself, Jon.
Someone who isn’t planning on staying stage one for long would say that
