I never claimed that TPC turbos are the best. There are a lot of good choices out there at the moment.Define bunch? Because if we extend it to "people we know", my number goes up to at least 10 for bad. So even if there are 20 good ones we can say "we know of" that are good, there are 10 which I can say I know of as being bad. 50% is not good. You don't see these numbers today with the Vortex turbos. I just do see why anyone would take the gamble. Nobody is denying some work, I'm just saying he failure rate is higher than the competitors.
I have no regrets with my TPC25. Spools quick, carries out boost to 7400 rpm. TPC38 flows better without sacrificing hardly any spool which is why the TPC25 isn’t being offered anymore from my understanding.
I came from a Mabo m480h which was at 90% wgdc @ 28psi and couldn’t hit 28 psi until 4400 rpm in 3rd so the TPC25 was a major upgrade.
Ultimately anyone buying a turbo should do their due diligence. I contemplated whether I should add my experience with TPC in this thread. I’m not here to get in a pissing match with anyone. I came in with real data, which was the ask.
My turbo puts in work. I installed it myself, performed a boost leak test, filled the chra with oil before starting. I did everything by the book. There are a ton of people out there whose “builds” are cobbled together and marginal at best. People who are quick to blame the turbo when there is something else mechanically wrong. I think it’s fair for any turbo company to ask you to perform boost leak tests or smoke tests to rule something simple out before absorbing the cost of returning a turbo and sending out a replacement.
But that being said, a company should stand behind its customers and its product. Communication through the process should be respectful. Paul at TPC has always been super helpful anytime I have had questions.
The current 38’s and 770’s with performance housings work well. I don’t know where the 40psi comes into play on the 770’s. Based on my wgdc I’m sure I could try to tickle 40 psi on my tpc25 but it won’t flow as much as the 770 will at the same pressure.
Based on my personal experience I would buy another turbo from TPC.
