Illuminated outside door handles

Hi guys!

I wanted to share with you one of my latest modification that I did to my Leon MK3, because I believe it should interest at least someone on this forum and it is definitely applicable to the Golf MK7. I've successfully installed illuminated outside door handles from AliExpress!

Quick summary of links:
To be honest there is nothing much to say about that modification, let the photos be the star of the show.
First I was worried that they will be some knock-offs from very cheap plastic but I was surprised when they arrived. They have VW logo and part numbers which suggests that they are OEM handles for Chinese T-Roc.

I don't know color palette of Golf MK7, but black and white color of those handles does not match Leon MK3 colors so keep in mind that they probably need to be painted before installation.
Handles are connected to the 1st pin of 16-pin connector in the door modules (plus) and 3rd pin of the same connector (minus). In Leon MK3 rear door handles are connected to the front door modules, because there are no rear door modules.
After installation there is only one thing left to do and it's coding time - activate bit 0 in byte 1 and everything should start working!

Golf also does not have rear door modules so rear handles get connected to the front. I believe the white matches the "Pure White" of the Mk7s but not the Oryx White on the R or the White Silver Metallic. Not sure about the black.

There was some time hey were only available for KESSY. First saw the non-KESSY about 2 years ago I think.

Got mine painted to match, Tornado Red.

Nice retrofit!

I have these also, I connected them to bcm on an unused pin for lights and coded it like some "old fashion" ambient light. When unlocking the car or opening the doors, they work separately from the mirror puddle lights. I set the delay for 10 seconds, so after closing the doors or locking the car, they stay on for another 10 seconds. Really love them. I have them painted Indium grey.

Mine are tied to the puddle lights, so they don't come on unless it's dark. They are a really nice mod though... and also the cause of my (in progress) KESSY retrofit

These lights look super nice. The wiring looks a little intense lol, is the golf the same as the linked thread/video re the pins?

If I wanted it to follow the lighting of the puddle lights I guess I would just tap that wire?

Pinout is exactly the same, as Leon MK3 is in most part the same car as Golf MK7/7.5.

You have to tap into puddle lights wiring, as there is no other coding for outside lightning in door modules.

Most people tap them in to mirror puddle lights. However I like them to stay on just a little longer after closing the doors. But I won't bother you with that if you already think that this is intense. Good luck with it and I can really recommend it.
