If you could have any other Mk, what would it be?

The first one that really compelled me to buy a golf was the Mk 6 GTI. With those Detroit wheels it always caught my eye in traffic. It made me think man I neee to get in one of those! I got a really good deal on my current car otherwise that's the direction I would have moved towards.

With that said, if I could own any other Mk it would be Mk 4. IMO, it looks very similar to the mk7 which has a lot of straight lines to my eye. The Mk5 and 6 are much more round to me. There is something about the way the mk4 looks that a love. It's understated and simple but I really dig that.

What would you go for?

I have had Golf GTI's since the mk1 days.

Definitely I will say MK6 GTI.

Sold since nearly 3 years ago. Like the Detroits! /Peter

I really like the way the 4's look and still do to this day. But I would also put a vote for the MKI.

The MKIV is my fave GTI as far as body style goes. I love the lines. It's a great size too.

MK4 since that's the MK that got me interested in these cars. 3 of my friends had MK4's right out of highschool and I always liked them. I got my MK6 years later, And now like my MK7 even more than the 6.

Just realized reading this now that the cars I learned how to drive on, at the ripe old age of 11 were an mk1 rabbit and a 1986 mazda 929 (both manual) and now I own a mazda and a VW. Serendipitous?

The 1980's was my decade, so it has to be the Mk2. Still remember the iconic ads on the box.

There's only one down side, and that is the fact that the actions of a driver in a Mk2 16v GTI almost killed me in 1993.

Those are great commercials that we didn't see in the States. Thanks for sharing.

I still love the MkV GTI ad campaign that ran here. In fact, they inspired my license plate: "OH SNAP"
