Pin 16 is for the illuminated sill strips.....& yes you can also join the door exit warning lights to this pin16..

The fuse is listed in the wiring diagram, SC39 fuse number 39 in fuse holder C..

So what causes the newly installed exit light to light up for a few seconds, then turn off and not enables again until i restart the car?

Its installed in pin 16 (violet and blue) so its very weird why it would shut down the strip leds along the doors entierly??

If its stated here that I can direcly put the + onto the pin 16 and weld together those two, it should work?
Even more weird it lights up for a second then shuts off

where di you connect theh brown earth wire to from the door exit warning light??....

Also what door exit warning lights are you using as it sounds as if they are causing problems & might have an internal "short"....

Many others have successfully done this mod to a GTI/R...

That is the one I use

The earth wire I welded onto the 5th pin cable, brown color as stated in the guide

It must be the light itself as you appear to have done the wiring correctly. Have you tried swapping the wires around that go into the light?...LED is directional on wiring.

Hi,

I've recently completed retrofitting warning lights in the front door.

I bought a set of used lights from Passat: 3G0947411

I wasn’t too keen on modifying the pocket itself as it was afraid of a risk of breaking it or being visible inside the pocket.
So, I decided to modify the light approach. I started cutting the connector to make it short enough to prevent it from pressing the pocket. After a few iterations the light was fitting perfectly in the door card making no pressure on the pocket. But the housing was shortened so much that the plug no longer clipped in it. However that wasn't really an issue, as if it even was properly locked in the housing it would again stick too much.
So, the wires had to be soldered to the pins inside the light's housing and guided to the external connector (3B0972712). Disassembling the housing came out to be pretty simple. It’s made of two plastic parts: the white back with the connector, and the front semitransparent red and clear. There is small point where the back and front parts are glued together. It is pretty easy to cut it with a sharp, thin blade, and then simply detach these two parts clipped by small plastic notches.

Soldered wires:

And secured with a heat shrink tubing:

and the tesa tape:

I made the wiring long enough so I could possibly unplug the light without removing the door card. I attached the connector at the bottom of the door pocket with double sided tesa tape so it can be reached after removing the light.

I deliberately let the wiring to be slightly pressed to the pocket, to prevent it from moving to reduce the risk of breaking the soldering. Maybe it’s overkill :)

This way the door card is intact, only the light is modified and it fits in the door card.
