Nope. MBQ has nothing to do with it. Only the type of subframe matters.

& both fit the Golf & have the same mounting points etc.....please explain why the full length won't fit the alu Audi subframe?..

That's what I'm wondering... the only reason I can see for it to not fit is a possible absence of mounting screw holes? I don't have the a3/s3 subframe yet, but it would be a bit of a nuisance to set up an undertray now, and have to redo it later down the road...

The three holes for the screws are there for either the thin aero or the reinforced skid tray ..just had a look at pictures on the web...

Do yourself a favor and try to put the S3 aluminum skid tray on your golf. Both subframes obviously bolt to the chassis but have mounting holes for the skid trays in different places.

Again, I'm speaking about the metal skid tray not working on the Golf. If that tray is only for the A3 cab, then I'm mistaken about the aluminum subframe. My understanding was that the metal tray was used by all of the A3 variants. It absolutely will not bolt to the Golf subframe.

The person "D_o_S" was asking about a Golf R with the A3 alu subframe this subframe is straight bolt on to the Golf..it is standard fit on the Golf Clubsport ....when this thread I started as a how to guide to retro fit the skidtrays etc that are made for MQB for the Golf...& I state in the beginning section for the Golf..

Item No. 23:- 5Q0 825 902C, Underrun bar with one duct (Skid tray), £195.73***
Item No. 23:- 5Q0 825 902B, Underrun bar with NO ducts (Skid tray), DO NOT GET as NO air ducts

same numbers as previous post...just look at the links to the parts diagrams....

Audi usually makes a hybrid plastic/metal or all metal extended length front skid tray for the convertibles...these sit lower & are heavier....thus they make a special skid tray for them which covers the whole of the front subframe also (besides the whole engine bay)…

....the regular skid tray or aero tray that I have listed only covers the engine bay & the front 1/3 of the subframe...but will straight fit onto the MQB Golf with either the pressed steel subframe or the alu Audi subframe...

^^^ That’s good info. I mistakenly thought that the aluminum skid plate mated with the aluminum subframe. I didn’t know that the convertibles got their own subframes that are different from the rest.

The only downside to the plastic skid tray (which I’ve been rocking for years thanks to golfdave) is the incompatibility with FMICs. I was hoping that the metal skid plate would be the perfect compromise but, as stated above, it doesn’t fit with the golf subframe.

Please STOP....!!!!

You are repeatedly getting your knickers in a twist....

The MQB Audi Alu subframe which fits the MK7/7.5 Golf & is standard fit on all MQB Audi A3 & the Golf Clubsport...is also the same subframe on the Audi A3 cabriolet....

The reason the Audi A3 Cabriolet extended length metal skid tray MAY NOT fit a MK7 Golf is the 2 locating holes it has after the rear section of the front sub frame...

Just wondering where US based people are buying the 3Q0825902 or equivalent skid plate from? Everywhere I've looked it's 3-400$, is that the going rate now?

I saw that deal in this thread but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. You guys got a great deal!

I did find the "aero" one , 5Q0825236Q, for $100 shipped on ebay. I might just go for that if I can't find the other one for $200 or under.

Either way, I'm glad I found this thread, thanks golfdave! I'm not really into modding but this one is a no brainer, in my opinion.
