So around December time I had an issue with my car in which whenever I turned the car on it would flash the EPC light on and said Auto Start Stop error, I then scanned my car using my OBD Eleven adapter and it then came up as the fault code P226300 which then related to Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Performance, initially after a few hours of googling I found out that the issue was related to the Turbocharger Wastegate Seizing up.
I had two options, replace the waste gate or lubricate the rod with grease.
Initially I tried lubricating it with grease and this seemed to fix the issue for a week or so. However after a while it began again. I then went on the forums again for clarification on what to do next. So eventually after a lot of deliberating I just went and purchased the waste gate actuator from a local dealer for £180 inc VAT. (£150 exc. VAT). The part number for my 1.4 TSI 122hp 90kW engine was 04E 198 725 F. This was the hardest thing to find of all so hopefully that is some use to one of you.
Eventually once I got the part I installed it a few days later and took around an hour and a half. Didn't really have many issues installing it so it was fairly easy if you have small enough hands to access it. The old waste gate actuator was extremely wobbly compared to the new one. Eventually once it was all installed the EPC and Engine Management light disappeared and the car ran like fine again. However after a day or two it came back once again and the lights remained on the dash and the car entered limp mode. I then checked up and apparently they need calibrated whenever they are all installed. So I took my OBD Eleven adapter and viewed the 'Charge Pressure values' for the 'Upper Stop' and 'Lower Stop' and realised that these had to have been around the 3.5.-3.7V setting for Lower Stop and 0.2-0.4V for the Upper Stop. However upon checking the 'Charge pressure actuator, adaptation for Lower Stop' and 'Charge pressure actuator, adaptation for Upper Stop' the values were way off sitting at 4.4V and 1.2V, both of which were a whole 1V off the required value. I then used my OBD adapter to get the same values from a 1.4 TSI Audi A3 8V.
This allowed me to cross check the values seeing as they are the same engine and turbo as they both share the MQB platform. Upon checking the values for the correct A3 setup were 3.4V and 0.2V, these values were exactly what I said they should have been in the last paragraph so I knew that these had to be the correct ones for my MK7. To then adjust these voltages for the waste gate on my car I had to then twist the actuator arm (rod) very slightly, around 0.4 of a turn overall and around 0.1 of a turn each attempt to change the voltage. Eventually after a 0.4/0.5 of a turn this seemed to lower the voltages respectively to their correct values and eventually after letting the car self adapt to the new adjustments on the actuator arm they sat at around 3.55V and 0.25V, this is far better than what they were before and almost a whole 1V less. At this point I restarted the engine multiple times and let the engine and computer adapt. I took the car for a spin and it eventually seemed to be fine. This was a day ago and since I've done this I have had no issues whatsoever so I believe the problem has been fixed. I shall update in the future if it returns or any developments occur but for now that is the 1.4 TSI 122hp Wastegate Turbo Actuator problem fixed.
My engine code was CMBA however this guide will apply to the TDIs, TSIs and even the GTI/R/GTD range as the adaptation is all the same, however the specified values for the voltages may differ so do what I did and cross check with a car of the same platform/engine. The guide itself for adjustment, install and the overall fix is the same concept.
Hope this helps anyone as I know this caused a lot of trouble for myself and others but If you have any questions just message me or reply and I'll be able to help.
In order to access the data for the voltages so that you can see them you need to go to Control Units > Engine > Live Data > Search for Charge and select 'Charge pressure actuator, adaptation for Lower Stop' and 'Charge pressure actuator, adaptation for Upper Stop' this will then display them for you.
