How to defeat 2021 MK7.5 GTI DCC Nanny?

The latest NA edition of the MK7.5 has an updated infotainment system that has one crushingly annoying feature - it won't let you change your DCC setting while the car is moving!

They claim it's for safety, but honestly, that's the easiest screen to use - just 5 huge buttons. Way easier than adjusting the radio or AC. This defeats a huge amount of the point of paying for DCC in the first place - it's not so you can set it once and forget it. It's because you might hit some rough roads suddenly and need to switch to comfort. Or hit a smooth twisty road and want to switch to sport.

Does anyone know of an internal setting you can hack to override the Nanny and let you change DCC modes while moving?
Thanks so much. :)

You may be able to change it in the coding with VCDS or OBDEleven but have tried just clicking the mode button again. On my 2018 you can cycle modes in order by clicking the button and you have to hit it to bring up the mode switch screen anyway.

Thanks - I'll keep my fingers crossed that clicking the button still works. After all, there's a reason we got a physical button - to make it easy to do.

If anyone out there knows a coding option, I'm all ears. (I realize there aren't a ton of '21s out there yet.)

As always, thanks to everyone on this forum. This has always stood out to me of one of the kindest, most responsive forums of any I've encountered. :)

If you change the mode, it’ll change, as I’m sure you know. Custom unfortunately you can’t change unless stopped.

I'll give this a try - I honestly never noticed that feature.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate how nice everyone is.

When you mentioned the MK7 Covid thread, I can totally picture wrapping a giant bandanna around the front of the car to help filter its air intake. Man, you could think up some cool looking bandannas that would complement the Golf's exterior. Think of all the galleries people would post. :)

Hopeful news, GTI '21 fans - I just test drove a different '21 GTI Autobahn, and it did NOT have the DCC Net Nanny! You could use the entire menu screen while driving, as well as repeatedly hitting the mode button. This proves by example that a setting exists that can turn the Nanny off, so it's just about paying enough money to the right mechanic to figure it out. :)
