Hi all, new to the forum!

Warning: Some of this information might be useful, but this is only my progress/side of the story
this is not a tutorial, not I or the forum will be responsible for any damage to your golf.

I have acquired some 2017 or 2018 golf R headlights. part # 5G0941753/4C would like to get them retro'd to my 2017 Golf Sportwagon 4motion
when looking up the part number they all have 3 modules on the bottom, ones i have got 4! further research directed me to mk7 egolf/golf r lights with High beam assist (FLA).
My golf was made in 2017 right before facelift meaning (I assume) I already have some of the newer mk7.5 software/hardware like the BCM
it is also a Trendline which is basic, no sunroof, manual parking brake, manual headlight switch, no light/rain sensor, manual cloth seats small screen etc. but at least its 4mo DSG.

I Have created a List of parts I'm using for this mod
also will be using OBDeleven

I already have a BCM - 5Q0937087 AN and it does come with correct pins.

Here's my work so far

Step 1 - Sent the car to dealer to code Gateway ( remove CP and Return FeC codes ), after coding EPC Light was on, when scanning found error "checking coding/version of" P164700

at this stage of the mod, I had an accident, had replaced my entire right front suspension and subframe therefor halted the retrofit
after months of headache and complete front golf r brakes and suspension retrofit, I started looking into the HID's again.

Step 2 - Found the High CAN Gateway STILL needed FeC Coding meaning the dealer did not code it properly, I had to tell the dealer what to do, good reference was this attachment from Ross-tech forum.

THIS PICTURE IS EDITED. I removed the red marking from enable system because the correct one is "Function Clearing System(FES)"
Screenshot_20210703-092211.png

Tech at the dealer already knew what was needed and coded it correctly , no more EPC light!

For next steps I used @George Ab's DIY: OEM Lighting Package (AFS Xenon) Retrofit.

Step 3 : Hardware and wiring - removed the grill, bumper and headlights followed same steps/wire routing as George, and faced exact issue George had! the wiring kit fuse plugs did not fit the fuse box housing I couldn't figure why, looked like they were the correct size but 3 hours down the drain, installed new headlamps, connected everything together reassembled interior and took a long nap till the morning. what I came up with is mini fuse extensions. spliced the extension, connected the fuse wires where they should go, test the lights and.... O.O!!! they work. well blinking/flashing with engine on. but work.

Step 4 : Coding - I compared my gateway and BCM to another golf similar to mine and figured my BCM doesn't have long coding and Gateway is coded differently. done some research, and thanks to @DV52 's answer on another forum confirmed I have the latest mk7.5 software meaning most of the long coding is completely different from the older mk7, meaning when it says you need to code BCM for Xenon lights Byte 2 bit 02, there's no long coding for BCM in OBDeleven. In my case It's in Adaptation

Looking at @DV52 's spreadsheet, George's Coding, and Harisg's post on drive2.com, I got the HID's low/high, turn signals and both drl's to work.
Mainly just followed George's coding except they were missing Leuchte 6 and 7 which are the main projector beams. This Snip was taken from Drive2.com.

XENON.PNG

Thanks to @DV52 I learned in my case to tell the BCM you have XENON go to BCM > Adaptation > Fernlicht assistent > and edit this string Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung to the correct headlamp.

Screenshot_20210705-001951.png

Step 5 - Current time I'm trying to figure how to code the AFS as I'm getting MIXED errors of incorrect coding and or not coded. possibly due to incorrect coding in "Fernlicht assistent > Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung", also not sure where "Byte 06 - 20 Xenon - Shutter (PR-8IG/8IM/8IP) installed" is in new BCM, and also not sure how to do this part "VAGCOM changes to introduce AFS to CANBUS, Code AFS, Add Auto-leveling to Instruments - Use Vagcom to tell CANBUS module that AFS control module has been added. Select 19 CAN Gateway, then installation list and check the box next to 55 Xenon Range and execute."
I don't have VAGCOM, but I did borrow friends VCDS currently trying to figure it out.

Update 07/07/2021 I managed to get rid of the AFS Error on the dash. but still have incorrect coding, suspecting the AFS module.
Currently Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung is set to "AFS, Fernlicht ueber AFS"

AFS Long coding 03 28 00 00 00 00 04 00
03
- Skoda Octavia (5E/NE) - Unable to change 03 to 02 I get an error (31) function not available. (trying to source another AFS)
28 - Leveling info via sensors not can / multi link rear axle AWD
04 - Static cornering light (according to SAE J582)

LeiMo links - 2F 00 00
LeiMo rechts
- 2E 00 00
I get (31) function not available for either of them if i try to change
also I noticed the part numbers don't match that's probably why

The 5G0-941-753-C/5Q0-941-754-C Headlights are MK7 Golf R Housings and should have 4 modules each:
1 AFS Controller
1 Xenon Ballast
2 LED controllers (one for the U-lights, the other is for the LED turn signal)

as far as your BCM, 5Q0-937-087-AN is completely compatible with OEM Xenons, so no change required there.

What is your current gateway part #?

For 4Motion, you need one level sensor in the Rear Left, it is Part# 5Q0-512-521-G

Other than that, I think you have just about everything needed :)

Is a good write up on. Currently doing a Halogen to Osram with AFS retrofit - Using Euro Low line controller and wiring harness.

Euro R lights are Euro 5G1941753D / 5G1941754D c for the pre 7.5. Looks like you have the NAR R 5G0941753C / 5G0941754C

You'll Need to check your BCM to make sure you have the correct Pins for the Shutters - B slots 22 (right headlight) and 23 (left headlight). Best way to check is to remove the connector and take a picture of your pins, Part numbers have little info associated with them. You can also look online for a good picture if it shows pins, I had to do this.

CAN Gateway, you'll need Pins 7 and 17. I had a B variant, I had to upgrade to C -3Q0907530C to get pins 7 and 17. I'd also recommend a Can gateway extender/splitter as it makes wiring easier. Easiest way is to just check yours, look for pictures online if possible. The module is under the dash above the brake/gas pedals.

1 level sensor is all you need.

Sorry for late reply, just received my OBD Eleven, and some of the parts including 3Q0907530AM gateway

What is your current gateway part #?
My original gateway is 3Q0907530B
I had my car at the dealer yesterday to install the CAN High gateway BUT ESP Light on!

I had a 3Q0 907 530 B, had to update to 3Q0 907 530 C( for CAN high/low pins 7 and 17). If the ESP light is on after the dealer, they may not of parametrized the Can gateway correctly.

Do note, if you did any changes to the CAN prior, those may need to be re-entered by you. That also could be the cause of the light you have. Though it may be the dealer didn't follow the ODIS prompts correctly. It should plug in everything needed based on vin for your car to the CAN, similar to if your can had failed and needed to be replaced.

@Kuzya: I'm lost - there is so much happening in this project (over such a long period)!! I'm not sure, but If your current issue is getting FLA operational - I'm confused.

I don't know when the OBD11 scan report was added to your first post - but I can't see the control module for the front facing camera in the list (the module normally lives @ address hex5A). Does the car have a front facing camera installed (it sits under the Rain/Light sensor)?

As I hope that you are aware, the HBA/FLA function uses the front facing camera to detect the presence/position of on-coming cars and when this happens, either the high-beam is automatically disabled, or the shutters are progressively controlled to not blind the oncoming car if the headlight fittings have dynamic light assist.

If the car doesn't have a hex5A module - how do you expect the FLA function to detect on-coming vehicles?

As I have said - don't really understand the current issue, so I might be mistaken as to what problem you are trying to solve.

I will try to simplify the first post, I'm in the process of coding the lights, I have them mounted and wired, coded the turn signals, drl's, and high/low beam, just basic function. car doesnt have a light sensor, auto light switch or radar yet, (there is a local alltrack that was disassembled for parts and it has most of them, ill be getting them soon). what im trying to do is get the AFS to work. logs are from this morning.

Hey @DV52 ,

I have solved the issue while back by swapping the old AFS(issue was, locked to octavia!), ordered and installed an R AFS and I thought all issues gone until now.

Replaced the aftermarket LED bulb to OEM HIDs, they aren't as bright as the leds, and noticed the right HIGHBEAM does not turn on when I switch to on, only press and hold.

I've spent some time looking into it, I think it has to do with HBA/FLA since I still don't have any of the components

Attached are logs from June, but I haven't changed anything, would you be able to look it over?

Thanks in advanced

Post-up the full long-code string on the BCM (hex09 module) - please. It would also help if you include an adaptation channel map/back-up file for the BCM - so I can see your HBA/FLA settings

It certainly is not "the right one". This BCM is the newer type that does NOT use an active long-code string.

I have no idea how, or why 0E4DDD is present in your BCM - but it's most definitely not correct !! My advice -remove the long code value (enter ALL zeros)

For your right High-beam problem do this:
  • Leuchte11SHUTTER RB22 - Lichtfunktion A 11 >Fernlicht rechts
