Heat Soak? Car feels sluggish

Driving home today I felt like my car has gotten slower... Do you think its Heat soak and getting used to the stock power? I did put ESC OFF and put my foot down and that felt a lot better. Thoughts?

STATS: AC was on, it was about 90 degrees outside and I live in south Florida. Oil temp was at 223 and coolant 190-195ish (can't remember the exact number) Could be the weather? Humidity?

Power wise all have done is IE intake, and I have also done the eventuri mod to help with IATs and air to the intake.

Having the AC on would cause loss of power until a certain rpm. Having the AC on, plus a hot day (means the coolant and oil is running nice and hot) would certainly heat soak the intercooler in traffic and slower speeds. Logging IAT's and timing would tell you for sure.

I felt the same effect in Central Florida over the past several weeks. High temps and heavy traffic equal no power on the commute. I wouldn't be worried.

Standard case of heat soak for sure, even at stock power warmer climates can definitely justify an intercooler upgrade

I was actually thinking about yours the other day or even that eBay Twintercooler that has been posted.

I am holding off on tuning my car for a while tho, I dont want to replace my clutch so soon. haha

If you have plans to tune in the future, the ebay twinter cooler probably won't hold up. Certainly not as well as larger FMIC's. The labor ends up being the same with the FMIC's that keep the stock IC in place (they just bypass it with the boost tubing).

Hot weather really brings the power down for a few reasons.
1. Hot air has less oxygen per cu ft.
2. Less oxygen means you can add less fuel.
3. Hotter air makes any air-air intercooler less effective.
4. Hotter air going into cylinder means more prone to knock so ECU will pull timing.

A larger air-air intercooler helps some but its ability to provide cooling is limited by the outside temps.

I live in a very hot area of California. For the last 20 years I have been using water/meth systems to maintain my cold weather power. Water meth can through evaporation provide cooling that can actual lower air temps below ambient air temp and condense the air. Methanol is 116 octane so it works wonders in the cylinder to further prevent knock (pre-ignition) and you can pretty much maintain cold weather power and performance even on the hottest days.

Did a couple of WOTs on my morning commute today and def back to normal power :). It was 82 degrees outside. Crazy how much weather affects these cars.

On a side note, with ESC OFF the car definitely pulls a lot harder. I totally thought that was a myth and did the VCDS tweak anyways... lol but with it on the car feels like it’s holding back during WOT.
