Harsh (delayed) transmission engagement, worse in wet weather

No fault codes (I have VCDS), problem worse in humid weather and/or slight incline with front lower. Seems related to Stability control - when ABS/ESC came off when wheel speed sensor failed, problem stopped until sensor replaced. Reset DSG twice, changed clutches and transmission fluid. None of these helped. Carried to 2 dealers. Volkswagen reset Stability control, did not help. Dealers unable to diagnose as no fault codes. All 4 tires same size (factory) and equal pressure. Annoys the heck out of me as very harsh. Happens most but not every time.

Any ideas?

Can you describe the situation it happens in? Mine does this when first shifting from reverse to drive when its cold. The solution is to shift into drive and count three slow seconds before releasing the brake. Pulls away smoothly every time when I do that. Just a quirk of the DSG transmission apparently.

Every time I start off from a stop in normal driving either when car restarts from auto/start stop or even when auto start/stop turned off so can't wait a few seconds (eg in traffic!).

So it's repeatable and you can demonstrate it to the service guy? They don't need an error code to experience a problem and guess at a fix. Is it under warranty?

That was just for when the car is not up to operating temperature. Not all the time. Are you keeping your foot firmly on the brake pedal when stopped?

The car is under extended warranty. I need to pay a high diagnosis charge each time that is non-refundable however so not willing to return. Both dealerships I tried experienced it a few times (not every time). As there is no fault code, they said they cannot do more, so I'd like to take educated guesses myself given it seems narrowed to somewhere in ABS/ESC system. Keeping brake firmly on pedal (which I do) or not doesn't seem to make difference.

Is your idle speed normal at about 700 RPM with AC off and 750 RPM with AC on?

Can you put this in other words? What do you mean when they came off?

Tell me exactly what they did with the WSS.

Sorry to hear about the expensive diagnostic fee. I guess you should try looking for a local independent guy you can talk to and see if they can help. Are there any VW or Audi specialists in your area who you can build a relationship with and get a good dialog going?

I've been having this problem for about 2 years. During this time, several attempts were made to repair like resetting DSG etc (mentioned in original post). The only solid clue on cause is that one of my WSS's failed about a month ago. When this happened, the ABS/ESC stopped working and several lights turn on (like a Christmas tree) on the dash! This was the ONLY time the problem STOPPED completely. They replaced the defective WSS and bearing, then the ABS/ESC started working again and the problem came back. So it seems like when the ABS/ESC is non-functional, then no harsh / delayed engagement occurs, but once this is enabled, I have the problem.

What is your idle RPM?

Sorry for the delay, the idle RPM is around 700 / 750. It doesn't change when the AC comes on and the engine is normally smooth at idle. I just ready that the issue likely has to to do the Auto hold and parking brake keeping the car in a stationary position for longer than it should and there being a software fix for it. So I am now investigating this route.
