Haldex replacement

Anyone have experience replacing the haldex yourself? If so where did you source the part? I believe mine not to be working. I have found the pump and the controller for sale separately but at 300 and 600 respectively it’s a little pricey for a maybe fix. VW is proud of the unit itself at 2800 on parts.vw.com but searching the part number on eBay has dozens of listings around 1500. Are these units legit? Most seem to be coming from Hong Kong. Here is an example.

I'd be cautious of buying something that important from China.

that's the entire rear diff, what leads you to believe you need to replace the entire pumpkin?

highly doubt you need to replace the controller. maybe you toasted your clutches, but that seems unlikely on the stock haldex controller/tune. if that were the case, aftermarket clutches are also much cheaper than an ebay rear diff.

the pump brand new is like $200, and for most people that's the most common failure.

Thank you for the info. I didn’t think I needed the entire rear end but searching the haldex part number leads to that listing. I had read that second link and I did have the awd mechanical failure code which that says is typically a blocked pump or a bad transfer box. I did a haldex service and the fluid didn’t look terrible, had minimal sludge on the screen also. Looks like I may need to try their transfer box test but I’m unsure why they say to do it with only the front wheels lifted. The prop shaft should always rotate when the car is in gear right? Only the haldex engages or disengages the rear when needed I thought?

right. that's just a test to see if it's the transfer case or haldex. if it spins then that means the transfer case is fine and the issue is with the haldex end. if not, then the transfer case is supposedly the cause of that fault (based on that guide anyway). it goes over it more in the video they link.

this makes me want to get my bevel box service done. yikes.

I’ll get it on a lift in the next few days and report back.

Are you getting massive wheel spin curiously? I had this issue and assumed my Haldex was toast. Tried the adaptation process and it completely solved my issue. Same thing was happening with another member on vwvortex so I chimed in with the instructions I followed with obd11 and it solved his issue as well.

I’ll give it a shot. Been working a lot so haven’t done much diagnosis. Wife’s car had a decent oil leak so that took priority.

Tried doing that basic settings thing and it failed. Did a half throttle launch last night and it boogied but still spun. Dumbass me forgot to log it though.

I was time constrained leaving for work so didn’t do much investigating. Been on 12s the past few days so the car is really my lowest priority.
