GTI engine mods and warranty

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with VW and engine mods.

For example, what modifications would void a warranty?

Any? (Obviously an ECU chip would, I'm more talking along the lines of exhausts, HPFP, Carbonio CAI, etc)

And is this a VW thing or an individual dealership thing?

I think you will probably find that most thing you add performance wish would void your warranty tbh, unless you can remove them before you take the car to the dealership.

From my experience with multiple dealers (not just VW)...
You can put any modification on your car but should they spot you for out-of-warranty service you will be required to prove the addition was not the cause of the failure/problem.
Your battery dying and you have an aftermarket exhaust... probably get away with it...
Bad injectors and a custom CAI... they will probably claim water got into the system and it's your fault...
Direct injection engine with problematic cats and a custom exhaust... well the truth is your cats are screwed either way but they wont warranty it with a custom exhaust
