GTD & Red Brake Caliper Option

GTD184

I have noticed on a number of images I have viewed of the Mk 7 GTD that some models (possibly german models) have red or grey painted calipers as standard equipment. I wonder why this option is not a standard fit across all GTD's as surely it would be good logistical practice to have some commonality with components? by making all GTD's complete with red calipers would also reduce inventory!

The costs involved must be negligible or even a few £'s per car. I would gladly pay £50 - £100 for the option of red calipers as there is nothing worse than seeing or owning a car with tatty calipers:eek:

Current price and spec. guide handy, so I just checked. "Sport and Sound" package is an option for GTD only, which is just the sound actuator to give a "Deep Sporty Sound" in sport mode. No mention of red brake callipers here and at £255 I don't think I'd bother!
Elsewhere in the guide, under Additional Items of Standard Equipment: GTD (Over GT), "Grey" brake callipers are listed.

The option description is mis-printed in the UK brochures, It comprises a through exhaust with speaker in it and red painted callipers. The internal 'Soundaktor' comes as standard and operates when the car is in sport mode.

Yes, on the GTD.

Elsewhere in the guide, under Additional Items of Standard Equipment: GTD (Over GT), "Grey" brake callipers are listed.
Again - a typo - they just come in the normal metal finish (same finish/colour as S, SE etc) and are not painted grey.

Hi mark V

I am new to this forum, I ordered my Golf GTD back at the start of December and added the Sport & Sound Pack as an option.

It is due to be built at the start of March with delivery later that month fingers crossed.

I was just wondering where you had confirmation that the sport & sound pack comes with the straight through exhaust and the red callipers? I am hoping mine will have these on it.

PS, I had a golf Ryder as my second car (about 16yrs ago) which was a "J" Reg so quite looking forward to seeing the improvements ;-)

Welcome Preardon!

Thats what the option comprises of in Europe (where it has been available for longer). A few members of another forum I am on ordered the option once it became available here (after BW45) and their cars arrived as per the normal Euro spec; ie with red calipers and exhaust sound unit.

If you think about it there is no other way it could be as the standard car has whats described in the VWUK's brochure anyway (ie: the 'Soundaktor') so if you did not get the Euro package you would not be getting anything for your 200 quid!

Let's be clear here, the "Soundaktor" is not a straight through exhaust. The exhaust silencing system stays exactly the same. The Soundaktor is an electric amplifier that is positioned on the bulkhead to feed artificially enhanced exhaust sounds into the cabin. The car sounds awesome to the occupants, but exactly the same outside the car. Of course, there is absolutely no improvement to performance, just perceived "sportiness" to the driver and passengers. At £255.

Lots of manufacturers are doing this now.

Mark V, are you telling me my callipers will come unpainted? :(

Nobody is suggesting that Talk-torque - the 'Soundaktor' is exactly like you say and is fitted as standard. The 'straight through exhaust' (with integral sound generator) is part of the 'Sport & Sound' pack.

if you have ordered 'Sport & Sound' pack your brake callipers will be painted red - if you have not ordered that option they will look the same as all the other callipers in the Golf range.
