man.......shop wants longblock in to swap first, BBT wants longblock first to swap items.

Gave my shops number to BBT so they can talk and I can step out. I hope I don't have to start finding a shop all over.

Amused that the crank has an Audi stamp on it instead of a VW. I did some more research since I'm doing my usual build the motor but check out stuff first thing. I saw this vid where they compare Golf R internals to a GTI. The only variance I saw was the cams. The Golf R has a longer lift duration on the exhaust cam, which makes sense because IS38 vs IS20. Everything else seems to be identical or near identical with only the part numbers being different. They also went into detail on forged vs cast differences. The GTI motor he was tearing down had the same forged crank as the R.

shop doesn't want your car sitting on their property without a motor for 6 months, which is totally valid.

what all is he swapping?
Totally agree. I'd bring it in beginning of Dec, ship out, 2 days to swap, long block sent back.....10-12 days....not 6 months, but yeah....10-12 days is a long time to sit so I get it. But if BBT requires it.......might be in a pickle. swapping over accessories (minus turbo, compressor, alt) and accessories bracket......timing too if they're good or they'll get replaced.

Update:
BBT is working a plan (if one can be created) to send the longblock out first, instead of receiving mine first, based on talking with my shop. We shall see.......Dec 10th still the target date.

Update:
no update

This is getting really frustrating and I'm trying to be patient but I'm 3 weeks away from my appt and there's still no plan or resolution to getting the engine out here without me sending mine in. Trying not to send too many notes, but didn't hear from Thomas last week so I'm going to send him another note tomorrow morning with my schedule and ask him to please find time to help me sort it out....even if I have to put a deposit down to get it out here.

Hate to say it, but I've heard of multiple people who have a hard time getting in touch with him.

I know of a couple of people who have used Ivan at BCP Motorsports out of NJ; I hear he does good work. You might reach out to him.

This is exactly why your shop doesn't want to deal with your car sitting without an engine. Thomas has done this to so many people now. Let me guess, you paid the deposit and coincidentally that's when he became hard to get a hold of?

I will say it's spotty for sure

I'll say this....he was been very responsive even after I paid....very responsive as he was building it...pics, videos, etc. It started as I brought up my and my shops issue....not complete radio silence, just less. Nothing last week. Hit him up this morning telling him I have three weeks left to get the engine out here and he responded in less than 2 minutes saying he was going to talk with my shop today. We'll see.

Update:

Talked to Thomas this morning. He cut me a deal on a retainer in order to let the long block ship out; funds sent over, he acknowledged receipt and when he heads to his mesa shop he'll snap some pics before wrapping/bracing/crating and long block will be shipped out this week hopefully!

Sounds like you might just slip in before shipping times turn to sh*t as they do this time of year! Very cool!
