if you drive it out to dinwiddie I can meet you there....they have tune nights where you get to do that, but it's a haul for you
It is and they only do that on Friday nights which is impossible for me to attend because my wife doesn't finish work till almost 8pm on Fridays so I'm stuck with the kids till then. Plus, my tuner is Chris from Galano and they are in Australia which is a 15 hour time difference.

yeah totally get that Drew. I only have one spot that's a commercial spot where it's completely vacant. Has an off ramp and on ramp and it's a dead end. It's where I do all my 3rd gear pulls; unfortunately, can't do 4th gear there because of a curve in the road, but 1-3 you're good

No real update.. rest of funding sent in. Long block fully paid for. BBT building head currently.

I’m amazed how hard it is to schedule a shop for the install too….. so many shops have zero time. Trying to lock a shop in asap…. Have one for Dec/Jan.

That was always my problem, getting an available shop that isnt booked out 3 months. Thankfully we have the new shop right here in town and I dont have to drive the 50 miles to Houston anymore. Prices are fair and several of their techs are master VW/Audi guys. They have done my current clutch and fixed my oil pan fuck up. They send pics of what they find, repair recommendations, and they oddly seem to be in the "know" on what is good for the MQB platform.

Just hit up YouTube and DIY an engine swap. It's like 5 bolts, how hard could it be?

🤣

Its the putting em back in which seems to be troublesome...

i watched that while taking mine out and he adds a bunch of steps you don't have to do (unplugging the ecu, removing the harness, dropping the subframe, removing the downpipe).

it's impossible to find a shop that will install customer-provided parts, much less something like a built motor with high risk of being a really expensive do-over if it has an issue.

If I had all the time in the world and had a person who had done it before, I could be tempted to do it myself....maybe.

And yeah, I hear you on shops being wary.....that's why I'm reaching out to another few shops I'm getting recommendations from other VAG club members. At this point I'm up for even driving 6 hrs away to get it done lol

FWIW - Gladney Automotive is my shop and with aftermarket parts, they have no problem installing. My clutch that they did is a good example. They asked me what I wanted in their and noted that with tuned power and IS38, that they would not recommend a stock clutch, nor would they want to do that (like I said, they are always in the "know"). They recommended the stronger version of my ACT clutch and I asked if they would install. They said of course as long as they order it themselves. I'm ok with this myself, sure I can't buy it and they install it, but its next best case scenario for me. We even discussed engine build and the guy states simply bring me a list of what you want in there, and we will take care of it, and of course share prices of what each part cost.

if you were closer lol. There ARE shops that will do this.....just gotta find them. Called a shop this morning and they said they would only install a brand new dealer engine or an engine they purchase. might have to watch that video lol

FWIW I helped my dad swap the engine in his BMW M235i and it honestly wasn't that bad of a job. The worst part was the fact the car was partially disassembled when he got it so some proper detective work was required to figure out where a couple wires went haha

appreciate the encouragement.

Got traction with one shop...we'll see....definitely a known and recommended shop (NGPracing). I've got feelers out to 2 other shops in MD (countrydubs) and WVa (VAGwerks)......
