three sets of wheels/tires plus a set for storage makes sense right? right?

e: I'm in a vulnerable place and miss driving my fun shit so I'm rationalizing all sorts of dumb ideas

I love my dws but they’re on their last leg…..so trying to find a decent set of all seasons to get me through the winter without dropping the same amount of money for DWS, just until spring, where I can get ECS

Agree, the DWS are probably the best all-around by far. They far surpass the PS4 I used to have.

I got a screaming deal on mine through tires-easy.

$160/tire, plus free install, plus $110 rebate through Continental. Ended up at $530 for all four, mounted and balanced. Was gonna go for the P zero AS3+, but at that price it was a no brainer.

Holy crap that’s cheap! I’d easily get dws again for that price

Conti ECS02 like any summer tire is pretty scary in cold and wet. Cold and dry they will be ok. Below 40 not ideal but really below 20 is when they shatter like ol' Tom Cat's teeth in Tom/Jerry (glass temp). I run Michelin PSAS4s for my "winter" tire. They are fantastic all around performance tires that I would have no issue running year around...but I had an extra set of wheels so could do it. 3 sets. 245/40/17 Vitour Tempesta P1s on 17x9s for track. 235/40/18 Michelin PSAS4 on 18x8.5 for winter (Nov-Mar). 235/40/18 Conti ECS02 on 18x8.5 for summer (Mar-Nov).

When I swap out the ECSs for the PSs...the difference is v. minimal. A bit more squirm which is to be expected with an AS, even a UHP one...more tread blocks but overall dry grip isn't a whole lot different...from a dry handling/lateral grip perspecrtive (not wheel spinning b/c you have wrong-wheel-drive ;) )...at least at public road speeds.

In true journal form, need to place here as I try to fix a really annoying DSG issue....

for over a month, whenever I'm at a stop and then take my foot off the brake pedal.....it either won't go into 1st, or it lurches forward a few times like it's trying

it also has stupid loud what I can only describe as "DSG chatter".......while maintaining a low speed (not under load to accelerate) it sounds horrific in and outside the cabin. As soon as I place it under load, noise goes away.

I haven’t messed with one, but I’d see if you can data log or pull codes for the solenoids in the Mechatronic Unit.

Including the solenoid, fresh fluid and a filter it shouldn’t be a very expensive fix if you’re willing to DIY the troubleshooting and not just fire the parts cannon at it.

Most shops will wanna just chuck a full Mechatronic or gearbox at it.

Same as with me rebuilding my 02Q gearbox, all you need is the tech data.

There’s enough guys on here who work at dealerships someone will be able to pull the VW manual reference so you’ve got the official VW procedure to reference.

You’re a smart guy, you can 100% fix this yourself for 1/4 what a shop is gonna charge.

If you wanna just skip troubleshooting replace N435 & N433.

Those two solenoids control the K1 clutch (odd numbered gears) and engage gears 1 & 5.

My best educated guess without putting hands on the car is N435.

Mine does this. It's developed the lurch both in reverse as well as moving forward immediately after being in reverse. It's due for a fluid change so I'll ask them to take a look. Mine has the same chatter if you don't accellerate between 1st and 2nd.
