It most certainly is a factory VW paint color. VW has many more paint options for European markets than us in North America get.
These may be shown on Mk6's, but the color choices are similar.

^ Those are only available in Germany -- and that's the Mk6. If you check the rest of European VW websites, there is no mention of any green.

Correct, the car and driver article shows a euro spec R. Go to volkswagen.de and run the Configurator. Its Germany only color, and many of those shown on the Mk6 picture are still an option on a German Mk7.
But to put the issue to rest, its Racing-Grün. Only available in Germany, perhaps a R/GTI owner in Europe could get the OP a color code.
And it costs 1,770 Euros to have Racing-Grün paint, so you really would have to like it to pay that much for a paint colour!
