Golf R - Update

As I mentioned in another tread I’m an owner of one MK 7 SE Estate. I suppose that’s good enough to qualify to be on the forum.

In October -13 I ordered a Golf R with manual gear box. It will replace my GTI 6.

In Sweden and as e.g. in UK many features as Radio Composition media, Bluetooth, Alarm, are standard equipment on Golf R.
I suppose the differences are just a “method of charging” for different markets.

E.g. Swedish standard : Winter pack (headlight washers + seat heating + heated mirrors), smoking pack. /12 v power, 5 doors (most VW Golf in Sweden are 5d).

Extras for my car:

• Limestone Gray met.
• Folding door mirrors + reverse. tilt function
• Rear view camera
• Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC)
• Alloy wheels 19” Pretoria including tinted windows rear (package)
• Panoramic sunroof
• Digital radio DAB
• Parking sensors front and rear
• Leather seats Vienna black
• Electric powered driver seat in combination with leather seats

Arrival - late February. As GTI for me is the top of the line, I see the car as an extended GTI .

Congratulations sounds like a lovely car. I find the MKVII R better looking than the GTI, just don't care for the front bumper and grill combination on the GTI. Photos when it arrives please. LSG is an interesting color IMO.

R in Limestone grey met.

Of good reasons I have been looking for an R in Limestone grey met. with panoramic roof, silver cups on wing mirrors and tinted windows behind B -pillar. Now I found one,driven by a lucky German. It’s just missing the 19“ Pretoria wheels .

19" Pretoria

Delivery pack A includes:
Extra set mats - rubber
Full Tank fuel
Supaguard

That's it ! It already comes with options I had to pay for on my mk6 gti like D.A.B radio, kerb view assist mirrors etc.

You also ordered the Pretoria wheels, they look awesome! Later I detected that it was possible to choose silver or black wing mirrors but default is silver which goes fine with silver Pretoria wheels.

I also get two sets of mats, textile + rubber, but fore sure just about enough fuel to drive to the nearest gas station and no paint protection . However I like hand-polishing (or as you say detailing) my car a couple of week after delivery.

As you mentioned the base equipment is much better on R compared to GTI.

I think I will miss the MK6, really like that car. Hopefully this one will be even better !

I will miss my mk6 but it's definitely a step up this R, I used to do a lot of detailing using clay bar etc and I still might wax and polish but I got the protection mainly for the interior as I don't have leather. I asked about the mirrors if possible to change and said only if buy aftermarket. Like you I thought about changing as not keen on silver but I think they will suit the Pretoria wheels a lot and brighten my colour up.

limestone looks very good too. I don't know between oxy white, one of the blues , or LS. hopefully they are offered up in NA.

  I know it maybe market/country related but I would be interested to know why some countries you can have a panoramic sunroof and 19" alloys but in the UK it's not allowed.....apparently due to vehicle gross weight and emissions so I have heard.....maybe someone may able to throw some light on the subject referred to?
