Hi does any know if by putting wheel spacers on the vehicle can it effect the front assist sensor on a golf R 7.5 (behind the front badge)

background story...

garage took grill off with key in ignition which led to the error - front assist not available. However on the same day I put wheel spacers on the vehicle.

I have been to a vw specialist who calibrated the sensor but within 24 hours the error has come back on.

that makes me think if it’s the wheel spacers causing it ? Any help or input would be helpful.
Thank you

That’s what I would think as well until VW dealers refused to do the calibration because of the wheel spacers and said the light would come back on as the calibration would be to standard spec.

Just covering all areas as just want the problem fixed

Remove spacers & revert to standard spec...& then get them to fix the problem....& continue to drive around as standard spec & if the problem comes back it can't be the spacers/wheels...

The link that I placed in the other thread also had a link to a tech post I wrote on Ross-Tech about the ACC sensor.....the sensor will self calibrate...but it needs to be correctly "zeroed" & levelled etc to road with the car having in spec wheel alignment....if the car can "crab" down the road your screwed...

Just curious if you have access to VCDS software ?

Yeah the next step I am thinking is to remove the spacers and calibrating it again. I am taking the car back to vw specialist to see what they view is. I did ask them about the spacers and if that makes a difference which they said no but will have to see what’s next.

I reckon the actual sensor is slighty "out"....as you say the front grill has been removed ..I reckon its not been properly replaced...& one of the locating clips might not be 100% pushed into place...& thus the sensor is slightly "out"...All they did when they "aligned" it was the "short" alignment which is just a reset of the learnt values & not an actual laser beam /domino board etc physical alignment...

Hi guys just an update from yesterday. So the car went back and the vw specialist calibrated it again as it was out again. When I asked how did it go out. They mentioned that the casing where the sensor sits that is lose that’s why the calibration come out. After an hour driving yesterday after getting the car back it moved again.

i phoned dealers for the casing but it comes part of the front grill which is near enough £200. Tried looking online and it’s similar prices. However once I buy this and they install it.It will need calibrating again

Is this the adaptive cruise sensor that keeps needing calibration? I thought it was radar-based, which measures distance by...radar. As long as it is securely mounted in its intended location it should function properly. What exactly are they calibrating? Or is this a different sensor?

Its the radar ACC....basically the garage failed to spot that the mounting for the radar unit was FUBAR so re-calibrated the radar several times....which is of no use if the radar is being held in the wrong position in relation to the ground & cars thrust angle....so the OP now has to buy a new mounting for the radar which is part of the grill on the MK7.5..& then they will have to yet again calibrate it....

I would suggest that the so called VW specialist isn't so "specialist"...its well known that the radar mounts have to be double checked 100% as it will just undo any calibration

Exactly. Waiting for the grill to arrive which is costing £170 ish with whatever discount I could get from VW. Then taking the car back. Hoping I don’t get charged for another calibration from this specialist
