Golf R 7.5 - Front assist not available

Hi, recently I removed my front bumper and grill to repair one of my parking sensors. Ever since I have put it back together I have had a error message on the car saying

‘Front assist not available’

from what I know that is the sensor behind the VW badge. And maybe it needs Recalibrating but apparently it is in the hundreds for this.

has anyone had the same issue or way round this or any info that would help me

thank you

Was the car powered on while the sensor was being moved or disconnected?

You'll want to disconnect the battery when messing with those.

Hmm the garage did leave the part ignition on. That could be the reason thinking about it.

so would I have to replace the sensor or just get it calibrated for £200

Yeah if the sensor has power and was moved it likely threw off the calibration. Nothing you can do but have it calibrated again.

If you scan the car and have a fault for basic settings from the assist module then that's it.

Thank you for your reply. In the settings I can turn it on and off. If I deactivate it and it will appear

front assist deactivated

turn it back on it will say

front assist unavailable

Sorry but it sounds like a trip to the dealer will be necessary. But first check the wiring connections etc. Also make sure that traction control is turned on because front assist won't work if traction control is turned off.

*Assuming you are later model with sensor behind emblem*
Did the VW emblem get removed during the bumper cover removal? The inside of that emblem is ultra sensitive. I had the same issue after mine popped off while doing an IC swap. A super fine hair-like scratch on the inside of the emblem was the culprit for failure message. I got a new emblem and didn’t require the price heavy recalibration process. I was told that even dust and smudges can interfere with the radars’ ability to “see” so I would suggest checking that (if the emblem was taken off)

So am update for everyone. Went to a VW specialist and got it calibrated for £240. Within 24 hours the same is happening. Garage has said bring it back to them to see. Anyone know what else it could be ?

Thanks for a response. I have had long drives in the car nearly 150 miles since the lights been on but no luck.

Back to the garage then...
