I had all the data with 5Q0 gateway. It's a combination of gateway and ECU software. Sport monitor was available and working on pre-facelift cars, all 5Q0.
What I'm getting at is that updating the gateway to 3Q0 is NOT going to guarantee Sport Monitor starts working. It might, if the gateway is your only problem but if your ECU software is not providing the data it doesn't matter what gateway you have. I would not go through the trouble of retrofitting 3Q0 gateway just for Sport Monitor. There are other benefits (that may also require other updates) but that's off topic.

Well it depends, All ECUs are capable of sending something to the sport monitor, there are cases where only a gateway will solve the problem and in other cases ( usually on smaller engines) both ECU and gateway are the problem.
Retrofitting 3Q0 gateway just for sport display is nuts. on the other hand, if you are constantly looking for something to retrofit, a 3Q0 gateway would be a great idea, will make sure all your retrofits work well even if your car is old.

OP has one of the smaller (1.4T) engines. I'm all for retrofitting (clearly, haha) but OP does not "need" to retrofit 3Q0 gateway for Sport Monitor to work.
If I were in their position, already having changed to a high gateway, I would try to get the latest software available for my 5Q0 gateway.
If it still doesn't work they could go 3Q0 but with the understanding that it's still 50/50.
