You will still need auto levelling and headlight wash for MOT purposes. Otherwise it could be argued that your lights are illegal.

If that's the case you are putting other road users at risk.

Some debate around the regulations though

I understand that, however it's 3 years away until that is due so I needn't work as of yet.

Although, when I had my first car I tried to fit in with everyone else, as you do as a teenager. I also fitted HID's to my projector headlight housing. A couple months after the fitting, my first MOT was due, forgetting that I forgot to remove the HID kit. When I went back to collect the car from the MOT centre, they told me it passed the MOT with no failures. I'm pretty sure they'd find projector housing a lot more MOT friendly than reflectors when HID's are involved, so very much doubt they'd fail me when it comes to that.

I know there's a chance of the police stopping me but I very much doubt that'll happen. For the whole 2 years I had HID's in my first car in reflector housing, I never once got stopped regardless of how idiotic I was at the time for installing them into reflectors.

These lights look great. My GTI will be here tomorrow. Of course, I got an S without lighting. Wanted the plaid and didnt care for the sunroof. I'm looking at these lights as i've purchased from Ed a while ago for my old MK6 lights...I just have a few questions:

1. Can someone post a pic of the DRLs in bright sunlight? Are they visible? I had the LED reps for my MK6 and they were hardly visible in sunlight.

2. Ed says you can use regular halogen bulbs, anyone here run these without an HID kit? How is the beam pattern? Would it be different?

3. Any "light leaks"? The MK6 reps had a slight leak on the side.

4. Does the red stripe match the GTI's red stripe really good? (I've seen the pics but sometimes it looks different in person)

Thanks!

Didn't buy Ed's headlights for my MK6, so I can't compare the two. These however are top notch quality and I'm very satisfied.

1. The led drl is very visible no matter how sunny. Also love how they turn off while signaling in drl mode. At night with regular low beam mode, the LEDs dim and don't shut off all the way. Nice touch.

2. Lights are complete plug and play. Only the High beam bulb is halogen.

3. Zero light leaks on my set.

4. Didn't buy the set with the stripe. Got the golf r reps.

Dec 21st Update

I just ran out of HID kits for these lights, but will have more available in about a week from now.

You can wait a few days if you wanted to order, or you can purchase your HID kit elsewhere. Any H7 or D2H HID kit should work fine. I can give you a $70 discount if you dont need the kit from me.

Happy Holidays!

Update on the RHD Model:

Here is a photo of the RHD beam pattern from my tester in the UK.

I have a set going to someone who will be doing testing in Australia, and after that, I will start up a Group Buy, if I can get enough people interested in getting the lights, than I will proceed to the next step of getting the factory to produce the RHD version.

I hope to be able to start the Group Buy in the next 2-3 weeks.

Got my lights in today. Thanks ED. Install was horrible. I'd install MK6 lights over these ANY day. It's not the light's fault, it's the car. The MK6 lights fit on a track that guided them in. Kind of had to guess with the MK7s since they changed it. Don't get me started on the side screw...which I dropped several times!

Anyways, the lights are pretty legit. I'm happy with them. They totally make a difference. Great option for us no LP cars and you can't beat the quality. I don't see any faults. It's pretty gloomy and rainy today.

Here's a mix of complaints/good stuff.

- Lights don't line up exactly with the red stripes. Have them flush with grill. All screw holes lined up perfectly.*EDIT* LP Grill is different.
- The LED DRLs ARE BRIGHT!
- Cutoff is pretty awesome after some adjustments (I marked positions on my wall where the halogens lined up and set it accordingly.)
- HIDs that came with the kit are plenty bright.
- Old MK6 kit, I didn't need to run the battery cable but on here, I threw a fault. Ran the wire and It's gone. (I hate running wires.)
- I need a Euro switch and US sellers are sold out.

Pro-tip

- Attach the harness to the bottom of the light BEFORE you screw them in. I had already tightened everything up and put the bumper/grill on before I realized the plug was at the bottom. Too lazy to take it all off again so I cursed and struggled for a good 30 mins. I don't have the smallest hands.

Questions

- Any luck with coding for cornering lights with low beams?
- Any way to code all lights shut off when door is locked? I usually leave it in parking light position at night so when I lock it, i'd like lights to turn off.
