I want the two halos with the electronics and gadgets that come with factory lighting package, plus I'm not a fan of the red stripe and the R has chrome strip and dual halos. Just with I could get R replicas designed for factory xenon cars

I am most interested in your experience with the performance of the new replica HID's over the stock halogens. Personally I don't mind the way they look, and they are also pretty decent as far as output and beam projection. Are the replica lights a major improvement? I have had numerous cars with bi-xenon so I am familiar with the crisp cut-off and color differences vs halogen just wondering in practical application between these two lighting solutions with this particular car what your experience has been so far.

Thanks again.

I'll have to say it is like night and day with these lights. I originally got these because I wanted the flashy red stripe but these HID's are amazing. The light stays low and makes a sharp line on buildings. They have a very nice and subtle blueish/purple tint from a distance and as you approach them they get more crystal clear and have a true white color. So far it's my only major modification done and I recommend them to anyone with the halogen lights. Now if I could only get some LED tails. Here's a pic of the lights on while driving

Oh now I see what you meant before. You want the look and features of R lights not just replicas with 2 halos. It is nice having two halos but after having 0 halos I would have been happy with 1. I think your best bet is to stay on R forums and wait for someone to upgrade their headlights and sell the stock ones. Good luck.

That's what I was afraid of

Thanks for the info and for the additional pics. Looks like you had a 337 or still do perhaps? I owned a 337 followed by a Mkiv R32 neither of which had the luxury of bi-xenon headlamps either unfortunately. I would say we are very fortunate that we have a decent quality hid retrofit available for the MK7.

Thanks for the pics, that answers my question as there are two Halo's per side on the replica lights. The lights certainly look stock and appear to be high quality. Like you I would have preferred to have the stock lights, but availability at the time and $1500.00 under invoice affected my end decision. I know that I read that these lights do incorporate a motor in each light that if wired can allow adjustment via a wheel switch I would guess similar to what I had when I owned an EVO VIII. That set-up worked great for me and I selectively used it when I felt I needed to and in some cases it provided better control than the auto levelers I had on my MKV GTI Bi-xenons. If there are motors then it would be worth exploring I think . I had a set of prodrive projectors back in 2002 on a new WRX and I wired those motors to a factory euro adjustment wheel and it worked like a champ.

These lights do have the leveling motors in them, you just need to run the wires from the headlight to your leveling switch (which you need to get). VW left all those parts out of the North American cars...

A few people managed to get it done on the MK6 Golf, if you know what you are doing its not that hard to do. I have a few spare MK6 Golf OEM leveling switches, not sure if these will fit on the MK7 or not.

The pins are 1,2, and 3 for the leveling motor power, ground, and control .

Hi there,

I have a GTI with no lighting package and am considering purchasing these lights sold here. However I have a few questions.

How do these replica lights compare to the factory lighting package ones? Amount of power they use, how bright they are compared to factory lighting package lights etc.

Also I understand that these headlights do not need new wiring. how come?

What type of problems I could expect if I get these installed? How long on average would these last?

Thanks

From the photos, the beam pattern is as good as the OEM Xenons in terms of brightness, sharpness, cutoff, etc. Both the OEM bulbs and the bulbs included use 35W HID bulbs.

These lights lack the auto leveling feature and is meant as an upgrade for cars with halogen headlights so no need for extra wiring.

As long as you aim the lights properly, and dont damage anything during the install process, eg, you scratch your bumper, drop a light, etc, you should be fine.

These lights are made by the same company that make Passat headlights I've sold, and they have not had any reported premature wear issues such as faded lenses, condensation, burnt out LEDs after almost 2 years of selling them. These really are one of the better products out there. :)

My shipment of lights has arrived, and I have plenty of GTI or Golf R headlights available for shipping from Vancouver.

Check out my other adds for LED Tail lights, and folding mirrors as well.

I purchased Ed's replicas for my GTI a few weeks ago and I'm pleased with the product. The quality of these headlights are so much better than some of the other aftermarket headlights/taillights I have purchased in the past. I'll update this post with better quality pics when I have the time...

Any chance they'll be available any time soon for people living in the UK/Australia with RHD cars? I wouldn't mind paying the extra buck for shipping if it means getting my hands on a pair. I'm sure there's many more out there from the UK/Australia that'll happily pay for a set.

Ed,

These lights look awesome. Quick question: What are the lights that point to the side between the projectors? I just looked at my US spec mk7 GTI reflectors and I don't have any lights there. Are they "cornering lights" to take the place of the stock adaptive turn lights or what is the deal here?

I am sending this in an email as well for hopefully a quicker answer. I am very tempted to scoop these up before you raise the price this weekend...
