Reading the comments about drains in garages. My first house in one of the two? at the time big cities rife with what we now call townhouses, had one. The house was built in 1926. Every garage has a drain, and there was also a drain right outside the garage between the garage and back door to the house, but the driveways on that side of the street had a slight incline towards the houses, so I think they were installed merely in case rain water got onto the garage. A side note: The garages were built to accommodate Ford model T's, A's and similar length cars! My garage was extended by a previous owner. I bought in 1977.
My next two houses were either new or almost new, and the driveways slope away from the houses. No drains. Could also be building codes dictated when drains needed to be installed. My last house had a drain in the first-floor laundry room, between the utility sink and the cold water heater.
I sympathize with others who wish they had drains. The garage floor in my present garage has only a slight tilt towards the street, and water pools when I wash my car in the garage. It's usually too sunny when I wash it, and I don't want to put on sunscreen or get skin cancer.
