I'd love to get the mk7 gti, just waiting to be tuned.

but this bs pricing is ridicilous.

"$42,465.40"

That's S4 territory. I don't know how I feel about that :D

Anyone buy a fully loaded mk7 gti yet?

how much did you pay?

It's an age old argument, that the price of a car will cross over the price of another car, although VW and Audi are from a similar stable, I favour the VW with the options and not for the price, eg the stop start, in the Audi, you have to keep your foot on the brakes, the rotary dial for the media system seems sub standard.
And the cockpit layout in the Golf seems nicer to me than the 2014 A3.
I don't have a fully loaded Golf, but did go for many options, things I missed out were leather (doesn't do anything for me) heated seats, 19" wheels (prefer the look of the Austin alloys) Satnav pro (screen size is irrelevant to me as I listen to directions) the other features wouldn't get much if any use for me, 5 door (prefer 3 door) reverse camera was not available , blind spot was not available and I didn't feel the full beam assist would benefit me. The price I paid was touching on R territory , don't think I miss the extra performance compared to gains in economy and overall running costs.

It may be S4 territory in initial price, but the amount you're going to pay in fuel and insurance will be substantially more in an S4.

I have a MK7 GTI (leather, manual, no tech package) and my brother drives a B8 S4. After seeing that my insurance DECREASED by going from a 2-door MK6 GTI to a 4-door MK7 GTI he's considering getting an R when they are released. The fuel consumption in the city on the S4's is just absurd. Almost 2 tanks for every 1 GTI tank fill. Not to mention his insurance is double what mine is.

The 2015 S3 on the other hand...

A S4 is about $62,000 after taxes and fees, not really in the same territory at half again as much as the GTI. Base model of an A3 with tax is about $38,000, that's the 1.8l fwd car, so not really comparable with less power and fewer extras.

That said I felt the sticker shock too and agree car and truck pricing has gone into the ridiculous zone. Consumer demand is the primary driver of this with people demanding more refinement, technology, luxury and performance and are willing to pay a boat load of cash for it. If desire wasn't part of the equation for us we'd just keep our 11 year old toyota echo. Rationalize it as much as we want need isn't the bigger factor in buying a GTI so like everyone else we pay a premium for our wants.

You can blame the increase in truck pricing to all these soccer moms claiming to 'need' a truck. I live in downtown Toronto and you wouldn't believe how many people have trucks and don't need them.

Since they now want to drive a truck rather than their luxury SUV's they want it with more luxury features. The age of a cheap and functional work truck is long gone. Its sad for those contractors / builders who just need a barebones truck to haul tools / materials but need to pay top dollar to be able to do so.

okay this thread took a wrong direction.

Couple things here:

-a used 2013 s4 is around 45-50k.

It's a whole lot better than the gti, which I don't want to get in it, if you want to compare, you don't know what the s4 is about then.

- the pricing is supposedly to be cheaper than the mk6, which came from Germany. This car is made locally, and still costs the same as last gen's fully loaded model. how is this any cheaper? Walk into a dealership, "oh the car is so much cheaper than last year"

Well. lets see, they took out the headlights, took out the wheels, basically stripped the whole car down for a cheap gti. Well, all the important stuff is in the package thats almost 3k more expensive.

Basically, if you want a gti, just to say you got one, then I can see the only positive.

If I want a GTI, it has to be fully loaded.

That's why Im pissed off about bs pricing, because nothing changed, yet we are seeing a drop in quality on the mk7 mexico gti's. go read some threads if you haven't about over spray, missing components, etc.

Ah I think the confusion is that you compared the cars on price when what you were saying is the price of a GTI relative to a used S4 is high based on a value for money point of view? You do pay a premium to be the first owner and for some it's part of what they are buying when they buy new.

I can't speak to the difference between lights and wheels etc but the led/bi xenon combo on the Mk7 seem pretty high end and the 18" wheels and interior all seem pretty high end in quality as well.

No argument on the issues they have with production quality at this stage, the minor issues are adding up to a bit of a disappointment, though I am only feeling it vicariously as my car won't arrive until Oct (ordered at the begining of June if you can believe that!)

BTW where have you found a $45-50k (tax included) 2013 S4 because a low miler (say under 50,000 km) 2013 S4 is north of $50k before tax based on any ad I've seen on autotrader.

Mk7 is overpriced and is not worth the price tag currently. that is what Im saying. ;)

I just hope people don't pay that much for a gti. I made the mistake of paying high for mk6, just like this scenerio, 1st batch, had to order, and paid too much.

S4 is loads better. like on another planet compared to the gti. so we will just drop the conversation. it was just an example. I'd rather get a used s4 than a gti at this price range.

Is that how things are trending now soccer moms want trucks vs SUVs? Hard to not blame the contractors/builders a lot of them drove the luxury truck market into the $75k range for a "work truck".

Can't argue that. I think a M5 is a better car as well. :D

lol we won't be getting the R until 2016 according to an insider at the dealeship. I told him states gets it in 2015, he was like we won't even be getting an option for dsg or manual like the states. They are only making a few batches basically for Canada until Mexico starts making the Rs.

I guess it depends on the contractor. Most of the ones I know just want something that will work, but I do know of some who want the bells and whistles for their 'work truck'.

But then again, some people think the GTI is over priced and some thing its has good value. :D

Personally, I'm more than happy with my MK7 GTI. Compared to my MK6 GTI there isn't much I could ask more for. Maybe a tune to make the engine more responsive (MK6 was stage 1 but the throttle pedal was much more responsive.)
