Fueling issue

Last Friday I went to fill up my 2015 mk7 (122k miles) on E. I noticed the fuel was flowing into the tank more slowly than usual, and eventually, the auto-stop feature didn’t activate, causing gasoline to overflow from the fuel filler port at around 13 gallons.

Now, three days and multiple drives later, the fuel gauge still hasn’t budged from full.

I’ve searched online but mostly found issues where the fuel gauge drops too quickly, whereas mine seems stuck. I’ve already had the fuel suction pump recall completed.

Any advice on what part I should be looking at here?

Thanks

Any chance you had the recall done recently for the fuel pump?

Is that for the low or high pressure fuel pump?

I replaced the one in the engine bay about a year ago (can’t remember if that’s high or low).

I’ll also add that the car is running perfectly fine. No misfires or trouble starting up.

Suction pump.

That's HPFP under hood. Not the issue most likely

Update: needle has started going down.

Will attempt to fill up at half tank and see what happens. Maybe it was burning off the overfill gas?

you probably just put in so much gas that it had to burn through the “extra” above the full on the gauge. i think it’s a gas station problem because i had the same thing happen once - the particular gas pump was pumping much more slowly than usual and wouldn’t stop by itself. i kept thinking “that’s weird, maybe it’ll stop on its own.. any time now…” and put in a bit more than usual. same symptoms except i was lucky, it didn’t get high enough to overflow.

this. It was a faulty gas nozzle/pump.
