Fog lights work through OBDEleven but not when I use the headlight switch.

EDIT: I figured it out! I pulled out the switch to check the connections. Connected to the switch was a black plastic piece that said "Autolight" on it. Connected to that was a red connector. Something made me wonder if there was something going on with the black piece in between the switch and this red connector so I disconnected it and plugged the red connector directly into the switch...and now the fog lights work! My only guess is someone tried to add auto headlights and wired it wrong? I am fine without having auto headlights as I turn them on manually by habit in every car I've ever driven. The DRLs still stay on when the headlights are on which is annoying.

The saga of trying to get the fog lights on my 2016 S to work continues.

I bought the car a few weeks ago and came to notice that the fog lights didn't work. I did some research and discovered the previous owner had, for some reason, installed a Mk6 headlight switch. I figured that was the problem, so I ordered the correct one for the Mk7. It arrived today, but it still will not turn on the fog lights. I did an output test through OBDEleven and can confirm that the fogs are connected because they do light up that way; they are just not under normal operation with the switch. I'm stumped and appreciate any ideas.

r/GolfGTI - The switch in the on position, pulled out for fogs...
The switch in the on position pulled out for fogs...

...but the fogs don't turn on.

They will turn on, but only if I run an output test through OBDEleven.

@BlueberryGTI : Hi.

It's a bit of a long stretch to be definitive about the cause of the fog-light problem on this car from the general information provided.

However, there is an easy check that will at least confirm (or not) if the wiring loom on this car is compatible with front fog-lights. This is my guess regarding how I believe the rotary light switch is wired on a mk7 Golf::

So, as shown in my diagram - notice that the wire count for the 10 x pin connector on the rotary light switch is 9 for fully functioning switch. How many wires are in the loom on this car and is there a Green/Blue wire?

If the answer is "9" and "YES" to my questions above, the next place to check is the coding on the central electrics module. Because this car was built in 2016, I assume that this car is fitted with a central electrics module that has an active long-code string (this is the older style module).

For the 09 module to recognize that it must operate a rotary light switch with front fog-lights, Byte 7, Bit 3 must be set:. Is this so?
If the answer is "YES", the next check is the programming of the Leuchte-sets for the front fog-lights in the central electrics module. For this check, please post-up screenshots of Leuchte12NL LB45 using your OBD11 device. To be clear, I need to see ALL 19 x adaptation channels for this Leuchte-set in your pictures
