Falling Branch damage

Hello -

My beloved GTI was hit by a falling branch.

For one reason or another, I will be paying for this repair out of pocket.

The GTI roof panel is ginormous, all the way down to the rear wheels!

Do you think these dents can be repaired in situ, and made to look 'good enough'? The car has 50K, is paid for, and I LOVE driving it. But $2K seems like a lot for these guys.

Presumably the $2k that you’ve been quoted is to fill the dents and repaint the roof.

If the paint’s not damaged - i.e. if the scratch marks are just superficial - an experienced PDR (paint less dent removal) operative could probably remove those dents and the cost should be considerably less than $2k. Some of the really good PDR guys can do amazing work - check out some of the videos on YouTube.

Any superficial scratches to the roof panel could then be polished out.

I second this.

Find a really good PDR guy / gal. Then polish.

The results won't be perfect, but It'll almost look like nothing happened.
